MegaManFan #51 Posted May 1, 2003 I wonder if any of the Blue Sky Rangers have secretly stashed away a full copy of Thin Ice with Duncan as the mascot. I'd love to see one of the 12 or 16K versions someday.
ubersaurus #52 Posted May 1, 2003 You know, the rom online is the version where you can put in a code to swap characters...my friend has a copy of Thin Ice. I'm pretty sure you could do it on her cart, I'll have to check it out.
Mendon #53 Posted May 1, 2003 I happen to love the Intellivision and its always set up and ready to play. I've got a pretty good Intellivision collection; it was the first (and so far only) system I really wanted to collect as much as I could for. Over the years I've managed to collect variations of the sytems (Tandy, Magnavox, INTV3, Pro, Sears, etc), computer keyboard, music keyboard, system changer, etc... and just about every game for it except for a couple (Super Cobra is one I still need). Everything I have is boxed and complete, a lot of it because I bought them new as they were released. No game variations though.. never got into collecting all the Sears versions, etc. Someone said the Intelly is ugly.... I think it looks pretty nice. The Sears brown & white version... now THATS ugly. Favorite games: AD&D Tarmin, Bump & Jump, Burger Time, Sea Battle, Tron Deadly Disks, Space Spartans, B-17 Bomber (Bandit 12 o'clock ), Truckin, He Man, Diner, and the CLASSIC Utopia! intvgene #54 Posted May 2, 2003 The Intellivision is a GREAT system. Most of its strengths have been pointed out so far. And I agree that the Atari killed it in the arcade translations, but Mattel and INTV made some great games for it. Tower of Doom Thunder Castle AD&D Cloudy Mountain Sea Battle Utopia These are just the start. There's five games that I still play regularly to this day. They had some great two-player games on the system and the sports titles killed the Atari ones. I collect for both, and love both systems, but the Intellivision is vastly underrated. Anyone who thinks so should give the system a chance with the above-mentioned games.
sku_u #55 Posted May 2, 2003 I'm sure this question's been asked and answered before, but how did INTV/Mattel get licensing rights to Burgertime? I thought Atari cornered the market on arcade ports.
A2600 #56 Posted May 2, 2003 I have a decent INTV collection just for the sake of having one.Plus, most of the boxes are gatefold, which is cool, and is seems that most of the time the boxes are there. I've got 41 boxed games, and that's enough for awhile. I never play it. THATS TRUE I OWN AN INTVII WITH MUSIC SYNTH COMPUTER ADAPTER AND 13 GAMES AND IF I HAVE PLAYED IT 5 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT ALL OF IT (A MONTH AGO) IT WOULD BE A LOT!! I LOVE THE THE VCS AND ATARI BUT I AM AN 8-BIT COMPUTER FREAK (400/800/130XE, THAT KINDA STUFF) WELL JUST MY DOLLAR!!
chrisbid #57 Posted May 2, 2003 Mattel did have first rights to Data East games, so they did Burgertime, Lock n Chase. They also nabbed the rights to Loco Motion and Bump N Jump. All of these games were done quite well on the Intelly, and fairly well on the VCS.
Numan #58 Posted May 3, 2003 Mattel was shafted on Locomotion because Activision released Happy Trails first. Let's not forget the card games: Poker & Blackjack and Royal Dealer. PB&J had three types of Poker games, compared to 1 for Channel F's Casino Poker although the F's dealer bluffed and didn't drop as much. Hearts is enjoyable on Royal Dealer. I love the look and sounds of Thunder Castle, but I always think something could have been added.
Witchfynde #59 Posted May 4, 2003 Oh, thanks to everyone who put up info about Thin Ice, that had some pretty interesting history to it.
Brad2600 #60 Posted May 4, 2003 Still waiting for my INTV games to come..got about 12 more and a boxed Intellivoice coming. Also got some more 2600 and 5200 games coming as well.
jsoper #61 Posted May 5, 2003 Are there plans floating around on the net to attach better controllers to the Intellivision?? How many directions do the Intellivision discs support? It's more than eight, right? Jay Tilton has plans for a genesis controller converter, it only uses 8 of the intv's 16 directions: http://users.erols.com/tiltonj/games/tech/index.html I built it and discussed some issues on my webpage. Brad2600 #62 Posted May 5, 2003 Sounds like it would be a good solution to the INTV controller dilemma..use a Sega Genesis controller. However, this would only work for the INTVII I assume as the INTV has hardwired controllers. Or am I wrong?
jsoper #63 Posted May 5, 2003 You could wire up some Din-9 jacks in parallel to the normal hardwired controllers on a intv-1, but it's more work. I've had a couple intv1s go bad on me and don't really use them/like them anymore. Intv-2s are cute and you can set them down on an NES frontloader for more shelf space. Brad2600 #64 Posted May 5, 2003 I agree as I once had an INTV2. I might pick one up for cheap sometime so I can have both an INTV and an INTV2. What is the difference between these two and the INTV3?
chrisbid #65 Posted May 5, 2003 the INTV 3 and 4 are the exact same as the INTV 1 units, minus woodgrain, plus a power LED
Brad2600 #66 Posted May 5, 2003 I know of the INTV3 but have never seen an INTV4 before. Hmm. I gotta keep an eye out at flea markets this summer. It's possible that INTV related stuff could show up.
ubersaurus #67 Posted May 5, 2003 There is no INTV4. INTV 3 is just the first model with a power LED. There was the sears one, and it was just the first intv with a doofy color scheme.
Mendon #68 Posted May 6, 2003 I would have to double check this but I believe another difference in the INTV3 from the INTV2 & INTV1 was that it had the modification in it so that the computer module and system changer would work with it. And while not an "Intellivision 4" by any means, I suppose you could count the Intellivision Super Pro System as another model that came out. ubersaurus #69 Posted May 6, 2003 Well, obviously both of those worked in the INTV2, and I'm pretty sure the computer addon works for the first model too. The intellivision website though simply states that it was the same console as the intellivision 1.
Inky #70 Posted May 6, 2003 Didn't the 3 also have the voice synthesis built in as well?
ubersaurus #71 Posted May 6, 2003 That was the planned intellivision 3...it was supposed to be essentially an intellivision with all the add ons and stuff. The one that got released is just the first console in different clothing.
ATARI TROLL #72 Posted May 6, 2003 The talking games were ok but it just isnt the same as a classic woodgrain atari
Brad2600 #73 Posted May 6, 2003 My INTV1 does look nice when set up next to my Woody 2600 on my coffee table..but it doesn't look BETTER.. I prefer top loading carts rather than side loading carts into a system.
NE146 #74 Posted May 7, 2003 by the way here is a pretty good Intellivision page (updated semi regularly) http://intvgn.roarvgm.com/ Also, anyone here with G4TV catch that great episode of Icons about the Intellivision? That was a great episode
sku_u #75 Posted May 18, 2003 Up until very recently the only Intellivision I'd experience was through compilations or emulation, but that all changed recently. I recently bought an Intellivision from a fellow Atariager and I have to say I LOVE it!!! All I have at the moment are Microsurgeon which is a truly unique and fun game, Burgertime which is the best version for any system IMHO, Diner which is one of the best sequels ever to come out for any system, and Stadium Mud Buggies which is a fun game, but is hard to master with the controllers. I also have Ladybug coming my way and a large lot of loose games I got from Ebay. After playing the Intellivision regularly since I first bought it, it's moved up to #2 on my list right behind the 5200 for best game system of its time. Now if only I could get my hands on those boots that fit over those annoying discs, I'll be a happy camper.
