Trinity #151 Posted August 28, 2016 (edited) I actually own a SNES myself. If I were to buy an emulator like that, it would be for the games on it. If I were to buy every cartridge for every SNES game I wanted to own, it would be way too expensive for me to do. Buying an official emulation console is the next best thing. Super Punch Out is great, but I can't think of any you're missing, besides obscure SNES games. If we were to list those, though, we'd be here all day. Besides, the obscure games tend to also be expensive. But that is the point. An emulator is just that. And it will never come with all the games. Hardware man... Let's keep it real for as long as possible! Edited August 28, 2016 by Trinity
Games Of Reference #152 Posted August 28, 2016 But that is the point. An emulator is just that. And it will never come with all the games. Hardware man... Let's keep it real for as long as possible! Believe me, if I had infinite money, I would get the original hardware every time, just that it isn't practical when there's a cheaper alternative. I agree we should keep the originals intact and use them, but an emulator can help those who cannot play most of the games play some of them, such as in my case. Trinity #153 Posted August 28, 2016 Can't anyone with a PC download a SNES emulator with all the ROM's for 'free' these days? The controller part though..
Games Of Reference #154 Posted August 28, 2016 Can't anyone with a PC download a SNES emulator with all the ROM's for 'free' these days? The controller part though.. You could, yes, but there's the problem of the controller and finding decent ROM's as well.
keepdreamin #155 Posted August 28, 2016 This isn't complicated. SD2SNES+smokemonster rom pack. You guys are essentially fabricating a "problem" that doesn't actually exist. mmertes #158 Posted August 28, 2016 I never knew those controllers existed. Thanks for sharing with us, this should be most useful. I highly recommend these as well. They hold up nicely and perform like the original controllers they are based on.
Games Of Reference #159 Posted August 28, 2016 You'll want the 8bitdo one once you figure out to buy one of these: I highly recommend these as well. They hold up nicely and perform like the original controllers they are based on. Thanks for all the information! Once I gather the money to do so, I will certainly look further into the options you have given me, to see if emulation is my thing. I will post my experiences with such devices, if I ever get them. Again, thanks!
Punisher5.0 #160 Posted August 28, 2016 So now I've posted up photos of what I have, what do you think I'm missing? I know I should really have a copy of Super Punch Out, but that's the only thing springing to mind. DKC series, Star Fox, Harvest Moon, and FZero for starters. Byron's Reviews #165 Posted August 29, 2016 Who doesn't love him? I can see it now: Anthony, the NEO GEO comedy man! On a more SNES related note, I would like to ask another question, to re-ignite this thread into action! With talk of the new NES Classic Mini, would you guys like to see that sort of Console for the SNES, and what games would you like for it? I would love games that I've always wanted to play, but were either too rare or too expensive for me to get. Games like Super Metroid, Crono Trigger, others like that. Then, we could have a collection of Mario games, such as Super Mario World (1 and 2), and maybe Super Mario Kart? I'm randomly thinking here, would love to see your suggestions! I would love to see an SNES version! And I'm pretty sure that it will become a thing next Christmas if the NES Classic Mini is successful. (:

Newsdee #167 Posted August 29, 2016 Has anybody here played this game called Pac in Time? From what I have played of it, it's a fairly odd yet interesting platformer with some unique mechanics. One reason it's a bit quirky is that it's actually adapted from Fury of the Furries for Amiga and PC which was pretty unique. It was a fun little game but I think the SNES engine is a bit better for console play.
Mayhem #168 Posted August 29, 2016 Do you have the Williams and Midway arcade classic's carts? The Williams CIB is IN shot heh (it's right below Top Gear), and I have a loose copy of Midway as it turns out having checked. I thought my only loose carts were the DKC Competition and Starfox Weekend, but evidently not! On that note, this is a fairly old photo (as in few years ago)... DKC series, Star Fox, Harvest Moon, and FZero for starters. I'm guessing you missed the post with my SFC games in it, the three DKC titles, Star Fox and F-Zero are there
NE146 #169 Posted August 29, 2016 Oh yeah! While I don't "collect" for the SNES (i.e. the games that I bought full-price during it's heyday, are pretty much the same games I own today), I do have one "rare" The story is after I got married and moved out to Seattle in 1999, I sought out temp jobs while we got ourselves settled. Although I was an engineer by trade, I took any quick work that would come my way at least at first. One of the jobs was at Nintendo sorting out letters in the mailroom where I lasted all of 2 or 3 weeks before being let go. They were REALLY strict with time, and I only got 30 minutes for lunch (or was it 15?). Anyway one day the Nintendo Store within there had a clearance sale. They had a huge box full of loose Pokemon Pikachu tamagotchis, some loose Virtual Boy demo games for the taking, and other stuff. I couldn't get to it until my lunch hour so a lot of the good stuff was gone.. but by "good stuff" I'm talking N64 because that was when the N64 was new. So I took the leftover scraps one of them was a loose SNES cart no one was paying any attention to. I bought it for $2(!). They also had the Starfox jacket.. but I totally passed on that one. I also grabbed a handful of other random swag, and that's pretty much it. But yes.. best 2 bucks I ever spent. I honestly had no clue then too..

keepdreamin #172 Posted August 29, 2016 (edited) If some one asked me what they should buy first when getting into SNES, my answer would be the following: Console modded for at least S-Video if not RGB. There may be a few other non-SD2SNES compatibile carts you may want, or a super Gameboy. But pretty much, that's all you really need for gaming on the actual hardware. Anthony... I wanted those so bad when I was a kid. I'm glad Viz Entertainment re-printed the Zelda one. Hopefully there is some hope for the Mario, Super Metroid and Star Fox comics to get reprinted. If I only I made money back then, I'm sure I have had everything from those catalogs!

Nitpick: stock first model SNES supports s-video natively through the multi-AV out, no need for mod.

I just went with the RGB method with a Framemeister and it looks amazing, though I'm using a 1CHIP SNES1 instead of the model 2.
