Beer Monkey
For $449 ..It's not a good price over the AVS or the NES Classic Mini The AVS is 720p which means goodbye to integer scaling on 1080p HDTVs. You get 4.5x scaling (240p to 720p is 3x, 720 to 1080p is 1.5x, which means 4.5x end result. Defeats the purpose to me.
veelk55
I'd have more respect for them had the Analog team been more upfront about what was under the hood of the NT. When it was announced, there was absolutely no data available anywhere that told me what they'd built, how they built it, or what it could do. Best guess was that they were literally harvesting old NES motherboards (this continued to be the most likely scenario until MONTHS after the release). I actually thought they were using spare parts from old Famicom systems, at least that's what I read online. I do remember being on the website around a year ago and wondering what the "HDMI" upscaler was. There was SO LITTLE detail about that, I used to think it was gonna be bundled with a modified framemeister or something that you could hook AV cables into. hizzy
So, the Mini won't use old NES parts? I'm trying to decide between an AVS or a Mini NT. Thanks! Edited August 24, 2016 by hizzy
Newsdee
No, the mini won't use original NES or FC parts. Objectively with the NT you get that aluminium case, a wireless adapter, a wireless gamepad, 1080p upscaling, RGB out, separate audio out, a microphone input for a few Famicom games, and an SD card slot for firmware upgrades. The wireless gamepad and adapter are sold separately so taking off $50, the mini costs avout $210 more than the AVS. Whether that is worth it is up to you. Getting high quality 1080p upscaling can get expensive (e.g. XRGB Mini) and the AVS can't be used with CRTs. But if you won't use those features then it's purely a question of esthetics of the case.
