HoshiChiri #1 Posted August 30, 2016 A friend was lamenting over his inability to get older systems to co-operate with his live-stream thing... and other the course of the conversation, we came to an agreement: If I could find a way for him to hook my Jr. into his setup and have it reliably stream to the internet, he'd play E.T.- for eight hours, or until he wins. So, just out of curiosity- how easy would it be to set that up?
+DrVenkman #2 Posted August 30, 2016 Well, you've got a couple options - what's your budget? The cheap solution is point a smartphone or webcam at your TV screen on a tripod or clip and just stream from an app or computer. The more expensive way is to take the A/V signal out of the Atari and stream that directly. You can do this a couple of ways but they all involve using a computer. Run the RF out from the Atari into a VCR so you can get Composite and Audio Out, or use an A/V modded Atari for the same thing. Run those signals into a capture card or USB dongle for a computer, then stream that from the computer.
HoshiChiri #3 Posted August 30, 2016 It's gotta have the signal going into the computer, he'd never agree to just a video of a TV screen (even though my new camera could totally do it.) I like the VCR as in-between idea, largely because I already own a composite USB capture cable, so it's just a matter of seeing if it would work for such. (Mwa ha ha...) VectorGamer #4 Posted August 30, 2016 There's another thread here on AtariAge how I explained how to do it and the thread is only a few months old. I'll give you the Cliffs but you'll have to search the forum if you want the details. - Output from 2600 to coaxial splitter using this adapter - Splitter out coax to TV and USB TV tuner - USB TV tuner to computer - Xsplit or OBS broadcaster to stream to provider If you have systems that are composite output buy a converter to go from composite to RF. I have like 3 of those things that I bought from Goodwill. No VCR needed. Here's a sample of using that setup using Xsplit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0c7AZGl6A2M
+xucaen #5 Posted August 31, 2016 Install a composite mod and get a Diamond GC1000. Then you can stream from a 2600. http://www.diamondmm.com/gc1000-diamond-usb-game-console-video-capture-device.html

Professor Gull #7 Posted August 31, 2016 What's wrong with streaming from an emulator? I was just going to ask this very same thing? Unless there is some die hard need for the video of the system itself and all. Else the VCR is the standard go through for lots of the older RF systems I know I have hooked up my 7800 through that then the Roxio HD game capture and it worked fine. HoshiChiri #8 Posted August 31, 2016 What's wrong with streaming from an emulator? Basically, he wants to stream from other older systems, and anything that doesn't have HDMI doesn't agree with his current setup (either he doesn't have the cables or it doesn't display correctly.) I imagine, given the number of things he'd like to stream, that he doesn't want to go through the effort of setting up multiple emulators. I figured it couldn't be that hard to jury-rig something if folks here streamed from Ataris, hence our little wager. I'll start with the VCR method the next time I see him, simply because I already own a USB composite capture cable (for digitizing VHS tapes), so it's the only solution thus far that involves zero money spent. We'll go from there.
Flojomojo #9 Posted August 31, 2016 Different strokes and all that, but I would think that anyone smart enough to set up an internet stream could handle setting up an emulator. That seems preferable to the cable-adapter analog-to-digital hellscape you're wading into. Have fun!

Oh I'm with you on that- the guy does emulation anyway (I know his Wii has the Homebrew Channel on it) so I'm really not 100% sure why hooking in actual hardware matters. All I know is, I like the cable hellscape and I can force him to play ET. Good enough for me!
