Problem I have with streaming is the seemingly constant eruption of new services while old ones die off or change policy. Multiple subscriptions are usually required, not every device works with every service, and it is the service that ultimately controls your content - not you!

The Roku is pretty good about that. You pay a one time fee for the hardware, and then there are literally tens of thousands of "channels" available to you. Some channels are better than others... but channels like "Revision 3" network are pretty good.

You would be surprised how much you can get with a Roku.

Do you have one yet? They are dirt cheap, totally worth it. They still continue to support even their oldest devices. I'm not sure if the box requires constant communication with Roku servers, or if once you add a channel, it then communications with that channel directly without having to go through Roku... so... if Roku went out of business, everything would still work?

I liked Roku until their tech support bricked one of my devices by having me reset it and then gave me a big ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm sure I'll buy another if the current one ever goes bad, but I'll be shaking my fist in the air and cursing.

Digital is convenient. That's pretty much its benefit. Easy to store; easy to access. To add another example to those Flo and others listed: We have the full DVD set of Futurama and yet the other day we streamed a few episodes via Netflix. #PathofLeastResistance

The tinfoil hatter in me doesn't like that Fahrenheit 451's dystopia could be a simple keypress away, but I just can't help myself.

What I find really abhorrent is something like Destiny: The Taken King, which had a physical disc but included only codes for the DLC. That renders the disc basically worthless.

Yeah, I don't like that either. Whenever I digitally buy a book, I insist on getting the full download in a format that can be read by all e-Readers (non-DRM).
