Check this out http://www.best-electronics-ca.com/joystick.htm under "Best Atari Information Tip" I would think you can use the 7800 European gamepad. computerguy #3 Posted September 5, 2016 (edited) How about those older wilco branded ones, here's some pictures. https://www.google.ca/search?q=wilco+joystick&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjo_rnumfnOAhVG8GMKHekXBqIQ_AUICCgB&biw=1024&bih=662 Edited September 5, 2016 by computerguy
MrMaddog #4 Posted September 5, 2016 does the regular sega genesis controller work on the atari st, last time we read here some were claiming it can damage the atari st ? It'll work when plugged in the mouse port, but in the joystick port the extra button signals will cause the ST keyboard to "lock up". The damage comes from repeated unplugging & re-plugging joysticks due to the poor soldering joints in the controller ports. Nothing that extension cables couldn't prevent... computerguy #5 Posted September 5, 2016 (edited) Just tried the regular 3 button sega genesis controller, it does work but rather terribly for any newcomers the pointer hardly moves at all. Not only that. it was overly hard to fit in the controller port and strain to remove possibly causing damage the port. I would not recommended this method to those out there who are new and who may be curious. Edited September 6, 2016 by computerguy
Christos #6 Posted September 6, 2016 Well, the genesis controller will work as a joystick in the mouse port, not as a mouse so that's the expected behaviour. I've heard that a master system controller will work on the ST. It's maybe worth a look.
simonsunnyboy #7 Posted September 11, 2016 Master system pads indeed do work on the ST in both ports. Genesis/MD pads will work too with a special adapter that blocks the control signals for selecting multiple button sets. The following description provides information for doing so:https://www.cs.cmu.edu/~chuck/infopg/segasix.txt
leech #8 Posted September 16, 2016 I highly suggest these http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?83077-PSX-Adapter-for-DB9-Computers I bought two, and use one as a mouse, and a 500xj for the joystick, though these are switchable btween mouse/joystick mode. You need extension cables for all tbe underside systems, but they work fine on the Mega STe and TT030.
