I need your help!

I have been working the past year on the cartridge of Jim Slide.

But I need some levels in the next three weeks to finish it.

The release date is Oct. 22nd.

There will be 4 diffent difficulties in the story mode: easy, medium, hard and insane.

You can use the attached level editor on a Win7 System or up with a resolution of at least 1280x800.

After installing you need an emaulator for the Atari 8 Bit too and need to link the default ending XEX to the emulator.

Editing is easy. Pick and draw with the left mouse button and erase with the right one.

Press F5 to test a level (If that does not work, then the XEX is not started with your emulator yet. Just locate a xex like the one installed with the level editor and double click it. Now choose your emulator application like Altirra and make it permanent.

Post any new level here or send it directly to me.

Configuration of Altirra:

Use the Atari XL OS. At least 64KB RAM are needed. Audio can be stereo.

The 1MB catdridge image will be released, when it is done. Hopefully it is done on Oct. 22nd. There will also be a collectors box available (but only a few. If you are interested, then give me a hint :-)

If you can help me with testing of the cartridge it is also very welcome! Just leave me a note and you get a rom image for testing soon.

-> The newest images of Jim Slide on disk and cartdridge will be freely available after that release!.

And this level works too :-)

I cant get the level tester to run with Altirra 2.71 - it appears I cant default Altirra 2.71 to boot without Basic and have to Shift+F5+F4 in order to remove Basic. Not sure if that is causing the problem but I just get a garbled screen with I try to test a level.

Sorry! Yes, Basic has to be off in that old special version of Jim Slide for the level editor. I totally forgot that. (The later versions disable Basic themself, but are incompatible due to compressed level techniques)

Please disable Basic in Altirra in the Options. System - Firmware - BASIC should not have the marker.

I'll take a look at this over the weekend, would love to help test (potentially purchase a collectors cart too depending on price)

Ok I fixed my OS issue but adding the XL Rom which gives me the Basic disable option. That worked.

I didnt have much time to work on this - making something tricky involves alot of planning so chalk this up to an easy level.

No matter what I do I can't get these to open in Altira or atari800win - I have all the settings correct.

When I open the test XEX in Altira I get a green screen and a blocky blob in the middle... Basic is off, XL OS and 64k mem

I added the XL/XE OS to Altiraa and selected that as my default OS with Reverse Basic (you get that option when you add an OS other than the Altirra ones).

My firmware says Atari XL/XE OS ver 2.0

I am running a XL 128K NTSC as my machine

Ive added my XL ROM to this msg

ATARIXL.ROM

There is a 'dodgy' version 2.0 out there, I have it although I don't remember which one it is but its caused stuff to not boot correctly and crash.

I just tried the editor out and didn't change any settings and hit the test level button and it worked so I'm presuming its looking at file associations, in the tools section of Altirra have you associated it to the different file types?

I didn't have XEX associated with anything. I had it set to Altirra last night, but no matter what I select in the level editor it never opens into Altirra.

Weird, looked for a config to pick where Altirra is and there's no way to config that and as my Altirra is on E: in a folder called Atari I doubt it was a lucky guess on his part so I can only imagine he's using the default program to open an XEX. Setting it in Altirra should be all you need to do but you could right click on an XEX and set the open with in there just in case.

There's alwats the start menu and default programs to go for overkill :)

Yup I did all that, but still when I hit f5 or the test button nothing happens. It's probably for the best though. My level building skills are poor at best.

On the other hand I would be happy to help test the cart

What version of Altirra are you using? Upon installing 2.71 it assigned .xex file extensions to Altirra. If oyu havent upgraded maybe try that to see if it fixes anything. You will need to add the XL firmware afterwards to avoid using the Altirra firmware.

Bugger, I'm at a loss then..Ignoring the editor, if you double click say on an xex file does it then run Altirra fine?
