Jascii font for BASIC Developers

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to contribute what I can. Here is my JASCII font. It's 8x8 and tries to follow the ASCII order. It's around 16 colors. I use an outline and hinting so that it looks good on both dark and light backgrounds. Graphic art assets and bitmap fonts are hard to find with clear licenses. I'm going to make it REAL clear here.

While not perfect I am putting it up under creative commons 0 (public domain)

http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/

Credit isn't required but I would consider it a nice gift in return :)

The first 16 tiles are intentionally filled in that way. It's actually the color register. So, if you have a program that imports the palette using each subsequent detected color this will help.

Looks good. Personally, I would have used a much more garish colour e.g. bright purple, to indicate which colour is transparent.

I thought Lilac was already pukey enough. Can you post the optimal color GroovyBee?

I also chose Lilac as it's built into MSPAINT. I was considering magenta but it's used in EGA games.

There isn't really an optimum colour. However, I've seen R=255, G=0, B=255 used in lots of sprite sets.

You can probably create your own colours. Having said that, I never really got on with MSPAINT. Older versions of Paint Shop Pro can be had for peanuts on ebay and they are far better better than MSPAINT.

Included a stripped down version up top with *just* upper, lower, numerals and basic symbols. This set is intentionally formatted for easy prototyping in Construct 2.
