FTP.ATARI.COM What is inside!

Recommended Posts

According to Archive.org:

FTP site capture of FTP.ATARI.COM upon news of bankruptcy and sale of this iteration of the company. Includes demos, patches, and information files. Downloaded using WGET on July 16, 2013..

I was tempted to download this huge FTP site and see what is hidden inside.

Unfortunately, the FTP size is beyond my internet connection speed (26.3G) :skull:

Did any one have a look at it before?

Hmm...

All I'm seeing (for now, until I download it after work this evening) is:

x-archive-meta-description: FTP site capture of FTP.ATARI.COM upon news of bankruptcy and sale of this iteration of the company. Includes demos, patches, and information files. Downloaded using WGET on July 16, 2013.

The WayBackMachine has a snapshot of Atari.com a week or so before the archive, and based on what I'm seeing, my best guess is that the contents of the 26gb zipfile is a collection of demos of the then-current offerings-- and not anything 8-bit necessarily.

Thank you Timothy Kline for your offer to download the FTP/ZIP file and to look at.

I think that what you are reffing to is a WWW.ATARI.COM

AFAIK, the FTP is a file server and not GUI based site. (file transfer only).

Therefore, the contents may differ.

I'm downloading it now, but the site must be metered, I am only getting 50% of my rated speed so it will take about 3 hours.

Agreed. My presumption about the contents was based on what I was seeing on the HTML site and it made reasonable sense (to me) that the ZIP will contain demos and patches for the software offered via the website at the time of the creation of the archive, and not necessarily software from that iteration of Atari. ;)

Thank you Stephen

Although, it did not come as our wishes, still we didn't expect something out of the ordinary.

For me (and guess for others as well), it is another proof that you always try your best to be available for Atari community.

Helping others is a blessing.

No worries guys - nothing was wasted. I just let everything run in the background while I was working. I do think I'll be deleting the archive though. Maybe I'll burn it to a Blu-Ray disc - I think they hold 25GB. I've had the burner for almost 3 years and never used it.
