SIDE2 update help

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I got recently a Side2 cart, I am noob with 8bit Atari's so I just use it to load .xex games, but I saw on official page that there was an update of the loader, but I am unable to apply this update. Anyone knows how to do ?

Thanks

Ok but I only have the Side2, no other devices, is there any other option ?

Btw what means : "boot SDX from the SIDE cart" ?

Thanks

Download the update here:

http://atari8.co.uk/firmware/side/

There's an ATR you can mount in SIO2xxx which will perform the update for you if you boot SDX from the SIDE cart.

The SIDE cartridge has SpartaDOS X (SDX) on the lower half of the ROM and the loader on the upper half. Put the switch in the lower (SDX) position, and boot SDX from the cart before flashing the update.

If you have 1MB of RAM, you can use UFLASH (supplied). Other than that, your options are somewhat limited.

I was wondering the use of the switch ! Ok I booted in SDX and I have a prompt D1:, what do I have to type in to run the .atr update file from here ?

Concerning the RAM I have a 130xe so 128kb RAM.

SIO2PC, SIO2SD, APE, SIO2USB, SIO2IDE...

SIO2PC can be made from a cheap FTDI breakout board and used with free peripheral emulator software such a RespeQt. Rather than my inventorying all the options here, if you search the forum for "SIO2PC", you'll find lots of discussions about various vendors and variations on the hardware and software. The vendor who sells SIDE2 (Lotharek) also sells SIO2PC.

Thank you, I'll look into this :)
