1541 II With

Hi I have a 1541 II disk drive with a sticker on the bottom side saying

Copyright C 1987 CBM IC ROM 251986 -03 As Contained Herein, Has this drive been upgraded

do anyone know or is it from 1987 just been fixed up.

251968-03 (note the different digit order) is the default ROM for the 1541-II.

Perhaps the ROM was replaced at some point? I don't know off-hand if there are other ROM versions that would match the hardware.

Hi carlssen I have just set it up with my 64c to give it a blast and loaded up a floppy ok loaded Ansiterm with it

after cleaning the lazer head looks like it may of been a upgrade or something. Inside on the diskdrive has a

stamp 5/87 and hand wrighting name.

Good! By the way, the head is magnetical - not optical so no laser is involved unless the 1541-II was heavily upgraded to some weird form of a 5.25" Floptical.

Well, there was a partial joke the other year to convert a floppy drive to use paper discs with holes, like a punch tape but circular. I don't know if someone took that up seriously.

 

Of course, there are magneto-optical 5.25" disks connected through SCSI, but I don't know any 1541 fitted with similar technology.
