Atari-Collector #1 Posted October 2, 2016 (edited) Well I did it, just accepted an offer on feebay for my 600XL... It's in nice shape and all, extra memory and AV mod.. but with lack of space I had sat it on top of my Atari 800 and it was just in the way and I wasn't bothering using either. And I have recently renewed my interest in model trains and figure I can spend the money there easily enough. I still have a XF551 for sale then ends in a bit, if the drive doesn't sell maybe i'll hold on to it a while more. who knows.. just babbling. I would like to say I'll miss the 600XL, but I really wasn't using it... So am i going to regret this? who knows... I'm babbling here... nanochess #2 Posted October 2, 2016 If you're regretting it now, I can guarantee you'll regret it in the future. The question is, in the future: will you see it like something that needed to happen? or will you see it like a chance to get another 600XL?
Atari-Collector #3 Posted October 2, 2016 If you're regretting it now, I can guarantee you'll regret it in the future. The question is, in the future: will you see it like something that needed to happen? or will you see it like a chance to get another 600XL? Well I never buy any of this stuff with the intention to resell. I'm not a flipper and I try to avoid buying from flippers. When I started my small collection it was mainly to get an 800 and accessories to replace the one I had as a kid, which I have done, and would it take insane amounts of cash to get it away from me now.. I still recall opening the box of the 800 couple years ago.. it was emotional to say the least. But the 600XL was more about just having anything Atari computer. If I were to ever get another Atari computer it would likely have to be 400, 800 or maybe 800xl to get my attention at this point. I remember drool of those old tank case 400 and 800's back in the day, so that's where my heart it. I wish I had the space and money to have a big collection, but a disability income doesn't allow for that
Marius #4 Posted October 2, 2016 For me the 600xl is one of the coolest and cutest atari's ever created. I love mine and would never part with it... But to be honest I would not part with anything with an atari logo on it.
Level42 #5 Posted October 2, 2016 Because the 600XL was my first computer ever it will always be my main machine. I love it's compact size and yet I was able to build all extra's I wanted inside But I love the 800 too.....I loved the way how it looked and felt like a tank when I saw one for the first time in my life (that was AFTER I bought a 600XL. Happy to own a PAL 800.....but the keyboard is kaputt.....need to fix that....

My first computer was a TRS-80 model 1, which I still have, and a couple years ago I upgraded it with an Expansion Interface. I will never part with it. One time when we were moving a friend of my brother was helping and kept trying to get me to sell it to him all day, he even said "name your price"... I should have said "a fully restored 77 Trans Am" and even that would be hard for me to part with it for
Gunstar #7 Posted October 3, 2016 It won't be so bad since you still have the 800. Or any one Atari 8-bit. Once upon a time I had representatives from all the Atari 8-bit line, and I personally decided to keep my upgraded 1200XL and down size getting rid of all the others except for one non working 600XL and 800XL. If something like the incognito had been available a decade back when I sold all the stuff, I would have kept the 800 system instead, but I needed the 64K base memory and wanted extended memory too, so the 1200XL was the choice since it's built more solidly than all but the 800. Yes, I miss the 800, I don't miss the 400/130XE's I had though. But I am happy for now with my upgraded 1200XL. the broken 800XL is going to get repaired and upgraded and given to a friend, and the 600XL will be repaired and upgraded and is the perfect size to sit on top of my 1200XL. My 1200XL has been converted to PAL, the 600XL will remain NTSC. One day I will get an 800 again too, but those are the only 3 Atari 8-bits I will ever own again and in total. The only time I really miss anything I'm forced to sell (I'm not a flipper either) are items that are rare and sell for a small fortune, because I know that I'll probably never have the money to repurchase the item at the high prices I sold them for! I'm going to try and desperately avoid selling off any more of my collections, since prices on vintage computers and consoles seem to be going through the roof and only getting higher. You might make a pretty penny selling stuff, but you'll miss it and have to pay the same or more to eventually get it back!

You might make a pretty penny selling stuff, but you'll miss it and have to pay the same or more to eventually get it back! yes, I've had to sell off stuff to pay bills in the past. (I could do the long rant why.. but that just gets bad), I sold off my best model train locomotives and some rolling stock.. And that just killed the hobby for me. It's been about 7 years since that sell off and just now getting back to my trains, in fact part of the reason I sold the 600XL was to help pay for train stuff. and now with nothing stacked on the 800 I can get at it easier and use it any time with no fussing moving the 600xl out of the way. So I may use it more now. I still have the xf551 drive listed for sale on feebay, but if it doesn't sell I'll probably just keep it. I also have two 1050 drives and a CF2SIO virtual drive thing. Spanner #9 Posted October 3, 2016 (edited) I have a Atari 800XL too,its the best Atari they made in my eyes, but like most of the people here I can't use it cos of the keyboard needs some TLC,and some new keys cos they have stopped working some of them,I use my Atari 130XE now,its black and has a nice new silver badge.. well you must of seen the pics.. In the late 90s I made a lottery program on it,so it would pick the numbers for me..in Basic.. Edited October 3, 2016 by Spanner
+DavidMil #10 Posted October 3, 2016 My kids were preteens when I bought my first 800. I would have sold one of them before I would have sold the computer. Thirty five years later.... I still feel that way! DavidMil
gilsaluki #11 Posted October 5, 2016 Damned lack of space (and wives). We "kids" need our space for our hobbies, errr learning tools, errr money management tools,.....well, ....

Atari-Collector #15 Posted October 6, 2016 Guess you're going to have to change your nickname now..... *sighs* I still have my Atari 800 with two 1050 drive, 850, tape deck, SIO2SD and a down or so carts... plus my two 2600's and 70+ carts. I'm not done, just changing focus a bit. In fact now that the 600XL is out of my way I can more easily get at the 800 to use any time with out moving stuff:) And I'd still like to get a 400 for the fun of it. I also have a small collection (7) CB radios just for nostalgia sake. I did ask once to change my name on here but never got a response.. I wanted it to match me Twitter and youtube user name. Atari-Collector #16 Posted October 12, 2016 Well it's been about 2 weeks since I sold the 600XL, (ebay buyer never bothered to leave feedback btw), but I still don't regret selling it, maybe more so today since I just bought a 800XL, with power supply, 4 games, manuals and box (box in fair shape) all for about the same price I sold the 600XL for alone. This wasn't the plan, but it happened and I got it
Omega-TI #17 Posted October 12, 2016 It's a nice looking computer, but if I was going to go for an Atari... ... this is the one that gets my blood moving. Of course the BBC... ... what a sexy beast!
Jinks #18 Posted October 14, 2016 The 600xl is the greatest ever. I would never sell mine. The rest take up too much room.

gilsaluki #20 Posted October 15, 2016 ALL the 8 bits are good. The 600XL just happens to be VERY cool. Should have kept it. Worth the money to keep it. SO EZ to upgrade to 64K.
