Atari-Collector #1 Posted October 5, 2016 Oddly enough, the recent selling of my 600XL and XF551 drive as kind of re-sparked my interest in my 800 and stuff, And I got wondering if there's any place still selling NEW 5.25" floppies? (especially that ship to Canada) (I actually found 3.5" disks in a drug store a few weeks ago and bought them:) I do have one of the SIO/memory card boxes, but I like the feel and easy of real disks:)

gilsaluki #4 Posted October 5, 2016 Best and B&C are great vendors. I recently bought a load of 100 floppies real cheap. Just GOOGLE and you'll find the places. I understand "getting back into the Atari". I love old tech, no-so-easy tech, tech that makes you do a little work. That's the beauty of Atari, any old tech...it's not as easy as the new devices, like tablets, etc. I love the old tape cassette programs. Right now I am going through Basic Electricity by Dorsett. Love the old hiss and simple graphics. Just fun. Plus, it's fun to review electrical principles. Believe it or not, you can still find C-10, C-15, and C-20 blank cassette tapes, perfect for recording programs too. Yeah, go get some floppies.

Brentarian #9 Posted October 5, 2016 I've had success with buying 5.25 floppies from Ebay. I recently won an auction for 80-3M disks for about $40. (8 new boxes of 10 each manufactured in early 90's). So far I haven't encountered a bad disk.
cjameslv #10 Posted October 5, 2016 Yeah ebay has been a good source for me as well for new boxed 5.25 & 3.5 floppies.
Atari-Collector #11 Posted October 5, 2016 Great place for new floppy disks... floppydisk.com.........can it be any greater than that? http://www.floppydisk.com/5point25 Tried that website, doesn't show the shipping cost to Canada of the 50 packs, if I select the $10 10 packs, it says $50 shipping.. ACK! So I just emailed them for a real quote
Atari-Collector #12 Posted October 5, 2016 Best Electronics, and B & C Computervisions. Try bc first. I've bought from B&C in the past, a bit slow but good stuff. Found some list with no real indication of the brand of the cheaper disk. they do have some listed on feebay, but the shipping is more then the disks costs. It's become a huge pain buying mail order from Canada with the stupid high shipping rates any more. I think some seller just pick the higher rate t hey see for super fast have there at the crack of dawn shipping.. and i'm babbling...

Marius #16 Posted October 7, 2016 A few months ago I was able to obtain 100 5.25"floppy disks with two index holes. That is something I really like for my XF551's.

Atari-Collector #18 Posted October 7, 2016 I have ordered from them before and they came in great. I heard back from them about shipping, $45 to ship 50 floppies, so $95 total, WAY to expensive for me. Too many places just pick the first thing they see listed when they check on shipping it seems. 20$ I could have seen, but not $45. new plan is to go though the ton of old 5.25"s I have for PC and copy what's worth keeping to a hard drive, probably on my BBS PC, and reformat them to Atari. Just make sure that any you keep for the Atari aren't QD(720kB) or HD(1.2MB), since almost all Atari floppy drives are only designed to work with single or double density discs. Exceptions to this would be QD/HD mechanisms attached to the Atari via an ATR8000 or a CSS Blackbox with floppy-board.

Actually a lot of the old 360K floppies I have were originally bot for my Atari 800/810/1050 I had bad as a kid. Since I'm running an 800 with two 1050 drives they should be fine I did snag a seal box of BASF disks of feebay the other days, so that's 10 new-ish disks coming at least. All the postage increases have pretty much killed my collecting on Atari and TS-80 stuff. I don't expect anybody to take a loss on shipping, but not everything needs to go international priority to be there in a couple days. And nothing comes up for sale locally any more. I've long ago got all the good carts. I wanted from the local used games stores in the area. I think we're at the point that this stuff is is lost to time, or in the hands of collectors that keep it. gilsaluki #24 Posted October 8, 2016 I guess intnl postage has gotten out of hand. I count myself lucky to live where the postage, while not cheap any longer, is not prohibitive.
