Boss, on Indiegogo

**EDIT - Hi folks, i just had a chat with the game's developer and he set the record straight, BOSS is 100% complete and ready to play at home! When you read/watch the infomation below keep this in mind, my mate Ian is mistaken when he announces the game in early development? Not sure where he got that info from? Enjoy the video and go pldege!

Hi folks! - As you know, BOSS is now a full blown (But highly modest*) Indiegogo campaign - LudicrousDa3ve has been really generous with his time and has answered the million questions i've thrown at him which leads to me wanting to share this campaign with you guys.

I asked a mate to play Boss because video footage is important, especially for men like me who enjoy knowing what thier cash is buying. So before i give you a link to watch that video let me precurser it with some tips. The guy making the video is a modern gamer playing a retro game, however he also attends most of the retro game conventiones here in the UK with myself, so he knows his way around an Atari, but he may not be nostolgic for the system and so Ian does mention the lasers being too slow... That may just be the way the game is supposed to be played, it looks/plays like a finished product to me.

The video has 2 play thorughs, the second is the more energetic of the two, and when Ian finally hits a 5 gun BOSS you can hear the excitment in his voice (about 13mins into the video), which makes me think that maybe it was more about Ian's stratergy and not the game needing tweaks.

If you go to his website you won't need to sign in to Youtube to watch the video.... Ian uses course language 2 times times. However, if you're like me and don't like to click links on the web, pop to youtube and search for 'Let's Play Boss - great bit blog' and you will find it.

DISCLAIMER

I don't work for the guys making this game, i haven't recieved anything now or in the furture for free (I will bebacking the game when payday hits), i'm a dedicated retro gamer who loves the community and after all the crap we all endured recently with suspicious kickstarters and all that crap i wanted to share somethig that's as simple as me... this is a project you can back for as little as $1 and the guys we help will be over the moon and in turn will make us more games. what's not to love. Thank you for reading this far and have a great day folks.

* The reason i say this campaign is highly modest is because so many of our retro gaming developer peers have asked for tens of thousands of dollors to jump start a project, i'm not suggesting that kind of cash isn;t required or that it means anything suspicious is happening but what i do suggest is that we as a collective are highly selective of the projects we help and as a group we are efficient at shooting down a project when we see flaws. When i realised Dave and his mate are simply trying to raise funds to generate interest in their game and to help them actually dev more atari games for us, i figures that level of transparency deserves a few bucks and i get a game in return. I hope you feel the same way.

I'm also available to answer questions about the game (since I developed it). BOSS is Cyber Willy with minor tweaks. For an earlier 18 minute play-through I'd check out this video:

UPDATE: You friend really, really doesn't like slow moving lasers. I might have to make a sequel called "Laser Trains" :)

That video is much better mate! If you sit under the boss the lasers will block your movement which increases the difficulty so the slow lasers are part of the game being difficult. I can;t wait till payday to pledge and get playing!

@ The loon - I do love the ship/craft you are flying in the game, the way it banks to the left and right is just awesome mate! Especially for an Atari game!

The original game Cyber Willy had a space penguin as the main character. Everyone assumed it was a fighter jet so I acquiesced and made it even more fighter jet-ish for this release :) The nice thing about Atari 2600 sprites is that flipping them horizontally is "free". You can save space by reflecting the westward veering ship into an eastward bound ship. So, NES level animation on the cheap :)

Hey folks, Dave Vogt from the BOSS team has given an interview on the ARGCast podcast - It's episode 27 and you can find it here if you fancy a listen.

The IndieGOGO campaign is now at a whopping $395 so let's hope it makes the goal of $500.

Once the game is out i'd love to set up a highscore challenge here at Atari Age? Maybe Dave and The Loon could put up a prise for the winner of the highest score? It's only a suggestion but i do love a good highscore challenge and as much as i love the crismas carol, there is now way im going to beat any of the guys entering that challenge, they must eat games for breakfast.
