mizapf #1 Posted October 12, 2016 I discussed this point with Insane Multitasker (Tim) some time ago: The Geneve Operating System was formerly called MDOS (for "Myarc DOS"). Since those times are long ago and Myarc resting in memory peace, a new name was considered, which is at this time "GeneveOS". To be honest, this is not really a sexy name. The Geneve OS is called "GeneveOS". Yeah, cool. This is an opinion poll, not a referendum - it should be up to Tim to decide about keeping the name, or calling it Frank, or whatever. ti99iuc #2 Posted October 12, 2016 (edited) I like the MDOS name anyway just for funny GeMOS or GenOSys (similar to Genesis) :D Edited October 12, 2016 by ti99iuc

+Schmitzi #7 Posted October 12, 2016 for me, MDOS is MDOS, as this is the historical and from legacy given name. Or, how should we call the TI-99/4A with a F18A builtin ? -> TI-99/4A maybe adding something behind the "MDOS" would be OK, like "MDOS 8.xx" or "MDOS 8T.xx" xXx
Omega-TI #8 Posted October 12, 2016 Or, how should we call the TI-99/4A with a F18A builtin ? -> TI-99/4A I don't call it anything different, but I did make a "Neat-O" little badge for it... jedimatt42 #12 Posted October 12, 2016 Is there a new version to warrant granting a new name? or will we end up with two names for the same thing? The historical name, and the new name? If it got a new name I'd suggest maybe: IDEDOS (I jest) I actually like the name 'GeneveOS', it just hasn't been adopted in practice.... all of the references still seem to use the term MDOS, except the documentation with the GeneveOS releases. +InsaneMultitasker #13 Posted October 12, 2016 goose - good old operating system enhanced This one made me laugh. That reminds me... who here remembers what is displayed when you type "DIR JP:" in the old, old, old version of MDOS?
+InsaneMultitasker #15 Posted October 12, 2016 Is there a new version to warrant granting a new name? The next release is on hold until I find and fix a problem with the SCSI routines. Currently, the SCSI2SD device does not work consistently beyond v6.50.

+Ksarul #17 Posted October 13, 2016 I think GeneveOS is about the best option up there--although I still have a fondness for MDOS as well (except I'd call it My Disk Operating System instead of Myarc DOS). I like TI Sissy's GOOSE too. . .

mizapf #19 Posted October 13, 2016 If there is another Boot ROM (which I'm playing with in my thoughts), it will show the Swan in some way. Apart from that, and from the logo, there is not so much swan in the Operating system, though. The idea of using a backronym for MDOS as "Multitasking Disk Operating System" (instead of the original "Myarc Disk Operating System") could allow us to keep the old name, but for me, keeping GeneveOS is also OK. As I said, this is not yet urgent, and I just wanted to see how people think about the GeneveOS name (could also have turned out that everyone else prefers the old "MDOS" name).
