Jim Pez #1 Posted October 16, 2016 if you create something with basic for the 2600 can you save the code ?
alex_79 #2 Posted October 16, 2016 If you mean the "basic programming" cartridge, then no, you can't save the program.
Keatah #3 Posted October 16, 2016 You save it by writing it down.
BassGuitari #4 Posted October 16, 2016 It isn't BASIC, but you could build a cassette interface for the MagiCard.
Mr SQL #5 Posted October 16, 2016 You save it by writing it down. Writing the code down on an index card and keying it in from the console was a normal way to record and load programs in the 70's, or later if you didn't have a cassette recorder There was only enough RAM available to BASIC for 9 lines of code, it would be interesting to see what could be accomplished with a hack that enabled more RAM and the cassette IO interface code from MagicCard! Here are some impressive short BASIC Programs: https://youtu.be/vhAj0XXuxVU
alex_79 #6 Posted October 16, 2016 It isn't BASIC, but you could build a cassette interface for the MagiCard. I love the magicard and I consider it the best "programming" add-on for the 2600, but I never managed to make the cassette interface working with any of my cassette players or the computer soundcard. I think audio levels on old shoebox tape recorders were stronger than those outputted by modern devices and I'm not able to design a new interface. I hope someone with the necessary skills will someday post a schematic for a more reliable circuit. The Spectravideo "Compumate" also has a built-in cassette interface and it uses basic.
