roots.genoa #1851 Posted March 7, 2017 I don't think the Pro controller has HD rumble. I can understand the high cost of the joycons because of this though. There is a lot of stuff packed in them and they work impressively well. I just checked again; it has HD rumble. And when you think about it, the Joy-cons cost as much as two Wii remotes, which makes sense. But I agree with Bill that it is still "tough to swallow", psychologically I mean. Punisher5.0 #1852 Posted March 7, 2017 Hmm I haven't noticed but I tend to loose attention to rumble after a while. Also, another possible plus is battery life for the Pro controller. I haven't tested it fully yet but the box says 40 hour of play time. I probably get around 10 hours on my PS4 contollers.

Tempest #1854 Posted March 7, 2017 Joy-cons also have a 40 hour battery life, which makes the omission of a USB port on the Joy-grip not that serious... Do they take actual batteries? If so, do they continue to eat batteries as they sit idle? I hated that aspect of the Wiimotes, if you left a battery in them it would be dead within a month. They automatically charge when on the system so if it's docked then everything will stay charged.

+adamchevy #1858 Posted March 7, 2017 (edited) The pro controller does feel really nice in your hands. I like the included thank you message as well. I haven't received my Switch in the mail yet, so I just sit and hold my pro controller while I watch reviews of breath of the wild on YouTube and imagine that I'm playing for real. Really I'm avoiding all talk of the Switch and Breath of the Wild like it's the plague. Edited March 7, 2017 by adamchevy
Keatah #1859 Posted March 7, 2017 (edited) Wouldn't surprise me if N knew of these flaws, they're minor enough, and they're hoping 3rd parties will come up with solutions. Much like the accessory ecosphere of the ipad, ipod, and iphone. Stands, clips, cases, connectors, protectors, shit that can be thought of in a day and manufactured the next. Makes for good secondary advertising. And a way to sell the "quality seal" if that's what they do. Not that this system doesn't have enough "busy parts" and things to get lost already. Here's to looking at future goodwill shelf material! Edited March 7, 2017 by Keatah

Here's to looking at future goodwill shelf material! They already have, look what HORI did. There is a stand for the system that doesn't use the charging rack but is elevated to use the USB-C adapter to juice it up or maintain it plugged in. There are other options from them as well that cover all the gripes as far as I'm aware. https://www.amazon.com/Compact-Playstand-Nintendo-Switch-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01N9RTMWS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1488839111&sr=8-1&keywords=switch%2Bstand&tag=gizmodoamzn-20&ascsubtag=5cd5d6172edb05e9bafe7704f0b655fa6ccb7ef8&rawdata=%5Br%7Chttp%3A%2F%2Fatariage.com%2Fforums%2Ftopic%2F258197-nintendo-switch%2Fpage-75%5Bt%7Clink%5Bp%7C1793020785%5Ba%7CB01N9RTMWS%5Bau%7C5876237249236384217%5Bb%7Cgizmodo Edited March 8, 2017 by Tanooki
Osgeld #1862 Posted March 8, 2017 (edited) nintendo already has their own stand rule #1 about product development, its not a mistake, its an opportunity I don't think they are specifically doing stupid shit like putting the USB connector on the bottom, but by the time someone actually noticed it things like PCB layout and design were done outside of tweaks. to move a major feature like that on a very complicated multilayer PCB for a contractor is as good as saying "start over", which gets responded with "ok pay me like 75% more over the original quote cause I can only use 25% of my previous work" same with plastic's, oh well we had this design for 8 months, you already started making hard tooling, but mark, the intern noticed ... $$$$$$ so you are a manager faced with a big but not deal breaking flaw, option 1 is to whip up a stand for a specific set of conditions, option 2 is to spend a pile of cash getting everything retooled, and push back release dates what do you choose? (shoot the hostage duh) also please note I am not trying to defend nintendoh, but I understand and appreciate how hard it is to make a complex project, and the ability of the customer to find every flaw, even if you didnt ... im not going to bash them on the first week or two, a thin felt pad fixes the docking issue, they have a (overpriced) dock to address the USB issue, and as of right now have not had a bad attitude (ala "your holding it wrong") Edited March 8, 2017 by Osgeld

Schizophretard #1866 Posted March 8, 2017 Is what is being scratched the actual screen or does the screen have a screen protector lens over it like the Gameboy line? If it is the latter and if later they release replacement lenses then that doesn't seem like too much of a design flaw because instead of having to provide your own screen protector like you would with the 3/2/DS lines it would come with its own screen protector already. For an example, when I was a kid with the original Game Boy they came out with replacement screen protector lenses and even customized ones if you wanted to change them up. I would do that and it was extremely easy. Like easier than getting a phone like screen protector on without any bubbles or dust because the original screen protector lenses would pop right out and the replacement screen protector lenses would pop right in then look brand new again. At the time it didn't seem like a flaw that my Gameboy "screen" would scratch and that I lacked the option to put on a bubbled mess over it to get scratched instead because to me it was clear that it already came with its own screen protector that could be replaced and when the screen protector was off while replacing I could see that the screen underneath was not scratched because it was bought with a screen protector. So, is the Switch's screen exposed and therefore in need of a screen protector or does it already have a screen protector lens over it like a Gameboy? The dock itself causing scratches would be a design flaw though because scratches should only occur when you are doing things wrong but I wouldn't blame the screen itself if it is a screen protector lens. Amazon sells it for under $15. Pretty sure it is as it has the Nintendo switch name, coloring, and logo on there. $15 seems pretty fair even if it probably is a $5 piece of plastic and packing materials. And you're right someone just didn't see a reason for people to want to do what we're seeing complaining about and it's far cheaper to then have HORI make a cheap stand for those who want it than to eat a ton of lost money and delays to rework the system. Perhaps it would have been in their best interest to have it stand vertically in a stand with the joycons off but then they'd need to figure out how to charge them then too. Kind of feels like a lose lose situation all around.
Asaki #1868 Posted March 8, 2017 http://gizmodo.com/people-are-trying-to-fix-the-switchs-dumb-design-issues-1793020785 As YouTuber JerryRigEverything shows, the Switch’s screen isn’t made of glass or sapphire like most cell phones—it’s plastic. Let me repeat that: this $300 console, which is intended to be fully portable and withstand the damage of being constantly lugged around, has a plastic-covered screen. I really don't understand the obsession with glass screen covers. Plastic may scratch if you don't take care of it, but as countless cellular telephones can attest, a thin sheet of glass can shatter with the smallest of efforts. Nintendo’s consoles don’t lend themselves to home repairs, and having such a shoddy screen feels like a huge oversight. ...I don't even know what to say to something as ignorant as that. Aside from needing to buy a tri-wing screwdriver, I have no idea what would make Nintendo products more difficult to repair than anything else. Heck, a lot of electronics these days are glued and clipped together. Repairing a 3DS is a piece of cake compared to having to disassemble a notebook computer >_<

bojay1997 #1873 Posted March 8, 2017 That's what a lot of the youtubers and news outlets have resorted to these days when they run out of things to talk about . In fairness, there is plenty of "media" out there that insists on putting an overly positive spin on things as well. I don't think there is any harm in objectively discussing the flaws of a product like the Switch as it is far from perfect.
