hedgehog #1 Posted May 4, 2003 Iam going to the mall today to get a new PS2 game. I want to get a racing game. I want one where they have cars like honda civics and supras, and where it lets you modify the engine and tires and stuff. Does anyone know of a racing game similiar to what Iam looking for? If not just mention some good racing games for PS2, thanks.
davidbrit2 #2 Posted May 5, 2003 I'm willing to bet that Gran Turismo 3 and Auto Modellista will be your best choices. I haven't played the latter, but apparently you can play online. GT3 shouldn't be more than $20, though, and you can do an insane amount of customization to the 100+ cars in the game. Offroad racing is a blast, too. Scooterb23 #3 Posted May 5, 2003 Gran Turismo 3. I love that one, it's a definite must own. Haven't heard much good beyond the graphics on Auto Modellista. And $20 or less, Gran Turismo 3 can't be beat,
jjessop #4 Posted May 5, 2003 For "realistic" racing with the features your looking for it's got to be Gran Turismo 3. If your into cell shaded stuff (I'm not) Auto Modalista is interesting, but I don't care for the car physics. 2 other great driving games are Burnout 2 and Need for Speed. I like Gran Turismo 3 as well, but collisions aren't very realistic at all, which takes some of the fun out of it for me. ..Al
CPUWIZ #6 Posted May 5, 2003 Yeah but have you ever played it on 3 TV's at the same time ?
Albert #7 Posted May 5, 2003 Yeah but have you ever played it on 3 TV's at the same time ? No, can you actually do that (presumably with three PS2s networked together)? Is each television a different viewpoint? ..Al

Albert #9 Posted May 5, 2003 Yes, it links via firewire and you get 3 different camera angles, it's killer. I didn't know that was actually a feature of GT3. I know you could network PS2s together for playing head-to-head with other players, but I had no idea that you could use that for getting three camera angles.. ..Al
Intrepid #10 Posted May 5, 2003 iLink racing on Gran Turismo is great fun. I've been to a few Gran Turismo parties where we have had as many as 6 TV's connected and running at once. Any non-racing TV's become broadcast TV's that allow others to watch. Lots of fun indeed. 6TV's and 6 PS2's all going at once on one table makes for a HOT room though. jjessop #11 Posted May 5, 2003 I like Gran Turismo 3 as well, but collisions aren't very realistic at all, which takes some of the fun out of it for me. Your right about the collisions Albert. Many (most) of the car manufacturers forbid them from being displayed damaged and that's the reason the collisions do not stand up to the rest of the game. GT3 is all about car licensing. In EA's NASCAR series the collisions are more realistic and the cars take various stages of damage. NASCAR seems to understand that's part of what makes it popular so they place few restrictions on it. Jerry
ElectricTroy #12 Posted May 5, 2003 I've been to a few Gran Turismo parties where we have had as many as 6 TV's connected and running at once. Can I come? NASCAR HEAT 2: Dirt to Daytona I just got this game, and I'm absolutely loving it. You can participate in three types of racing: - "normal" cars on dirt - modified cars (large go-carts) on short tracks - Craftsman Pickup Trucks (lots of banging and damage!) - Winston Cup Cars - everything can be changed: tires, springs, et cetera This is the best racer I've seen so far on a PS2. Yeah Gran Turismo is a lot of fun, but it's lacking in the realism. A real car can't "power slide" like that. NASCAR Heat 2 is about as close to the real thing as you can get. Markimus of K. #14 Posted May 7, 2003 You need to get Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2! GT3 is very good, but for some reason I think NFS is better, I just enjoy racing in it more. Give me my racing yellow Corvette and I am content with the world. Not sure what exactly it is but in NFS I feel more "there". I don't know, but they are both worthy racing titles, you can't go wrong with either one. However, if you are at all into F1, get EA's F1 2001. Simply The Best F1 on a console I've ever seen. Hey, any word on 2003? I've heard not a thing! Markimus of liking his racing games PS: Enduro's not bad either!
liveinabin #15 Posted May 7, 2003 For my racing fix, I still play PS1 Ridge Racer 4 on my PS2 (but only with the Jogcon - dual shock control sucks) - absolutely awesome game. Can't wait for the next Ridge game, I hope they resist the temptation to use licensed cars as I've heard rumoured - I don't want a f**king Porsche, give me an Assoluto Fatalita any day:)
Osmeroid #16 Posted May 7, 2003 Now we're talking some serious games! Colin Mcrae Rally 3 is superb but you just can't top GT 3 . Try out the Supra with all the upgrades, car has 1034bhp!! Has anyone else tried out the max speed trick on GT 3 using the Suzuki PP?
PaulEMoz #17 Posted May 8, 2003 My reply's too late, but I agree with Markimus. Although it doesn't give you the ability to tune your car, Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 is the most fun, exhilarating racing game I have ever played, on any system. It's absolutely superb, and there are hours and hours of gameplay in the two modes before you unlock all the tracks and all the cars. I rented it from Blockbuster, played it more than any other game I've rented, then bought it and I still play it all the time three months later. It's exceptional fun.
