is it worth saving clone joysticks?

Recommended Posts

I finally took a look at the joysticks the came with the 800XL I got a couple weeks ago, I have a lots of joysticks so I was in no hurry to check them out... 3 joysticks, all missing the rubber handle cover, all clones as far as I can tell so far. two the handles move freely as not pushing contacts.

So since I have a number of good sticks, bother after market and real Atari including one heavy six, I'm thinking that only use for these is save the cords and the rest goes in the trash. Or is there any reason to keep them for parts or something? just rambling out loud here..

Are they CX40 clones? Can they be upgraded with the Best gold boards, sticks and rubber handles? If so, I'd save 'em and give them some love by performing the upgrades. If they're totally incompatible with CX40 parts, then yeah - I'd toss 'em. Saving the cords of course, as you mentioned.

My suggestion: If they work, keep 'em, or at least sell 'em. If they don't work, and by "don't work" I mean even little quirks like having trouble moving left or once in a while not registering a button press, chunk 'em. My exception would be for the Gemini "Gemstiks", easy to spot by their yellow fire buttons. Those things are both common enough and durable enough that even broken ones can be worth keeping or selling for parts.

I'm a fan of Gemstiks too. More comfortable for long sessions.

I have a few Gemsticks too, nice sticks,, Sliksticks are good also. but with may hand I tend to have to use one of those aftermarket Sega pads (can't recall the exact name off hand...) So I'm not super worried about this three damaged clones.
