CDBypass via BJL ("new util." =)

Recommended Posts

Hi! All BJL users!

What is this?:

Just a small (useless ;) version of my BJL cdbypass program. ie people with a BJL can boot a CD by uploading this program to the jaguar.

The main use of this program is the ability to have a MemoryTrack cart in the cdplayer and still be able to run UNencrypted CDs, and get the "save function".. For games that support it!!!

Currently that list isn't so long... but one never knows what the future holds =)

Hope it may be of use to someone....

(If not i gained usefull knowledge about the CD by coding this little util =)

Read the included readme.txt for a bit more info.

!!!---Special thanx to CTS of NLC for webspace---!!!

Cheers!

..ahhmm.. and now the forum URL thing... hope it works...=)

Cool :) What's different between this and the last version? (and wasn't that 0.9? hehe). The binary is bigger...

Just so everyone knows, this will allow American Hero to run with a Memory Track inserted, and saves will work :) You can resume from the last decision point, which is very helpful if you don't like waiting through the opening sequence (or you could use the first three save slots to bookmark the 3 ways to get out of the strip club, so your significant other doesn't object ;) ). Each savegame takes up 1536 bytes on your Memory Track. [this info also added to the AH ordering thread]

Hi!

Well.. actually nothing differs =) except that now it is public =)

I didnt get the debugg help I would have whanted (via "el listo") so I thought Id just release it... It works with Ataris MT´s anyway...

I could support other MT´s in the future.. if they turn out to be incompatible.

And realising that I dont have to care about Highlander (sicne it is properly encrypted) I thouht whata heck =)

Humm.. the bin shouldnt be bigger or smaller.. I wonder if i included the right file? ;o) need to check that.

any other unencrypted cd games besides AH that can use the memory track? will this work with Protector BJL (when used with the Jagcd) by swapping out the Protector cart with the memory track like one or two other utilities can do? Or, maybe I don't need to worry about it; will Protector's eeprom memory or BSG's work with AH or any other unencrypted cd games out now?

It's never recommended that you swap out a cart while the system is on. I'm not sure it even works because the Jag can detect when the cart is removed and it powers down. I never tried it with the CD installed, it might let you get away with it, but it's bad for the chips.

Hi! Gunstar

Hevens No! never remove a cart while running!

Here is how i understood it The carts that have built in cdbypass code ( BSG & PSE ??) does Not have "flash" memory to store different game data (guess this will be thurraly clarified if it is not true ;)

But a memoryTrack has special software (MT manager) and ...is it 128Kb (?) of flash memory to store different game data.

So the hole point of this (small and limited use ;) program was to alowe, atleast the BJL users) to have the MT cart inserted & still boot a CD.

Though... as mentioned, so far there isnt that menny unencrypted cdgames that have this feature.. but hopefully all future cdgames will...

Hello Sym,

i think you are not aware of the fact that

1) due to ProtectorSE having the BJL-loader is no longer dependant from having a modified Jaguar with a BJL-BOOT-ROM.

2) almost all "BJL"-programs can be loaded by JUGS without problems (as far as i heard). JUGS --> BS and BSG.

ProtSE and BSG both include a CD-Bypass, so the only benefit of your

program for owners of these cartridges would have been the

MemoryTrack-access, but this is not possible because the slot can't hold

two cards at the same time.

So better use the term "owners of BJL-modified Jaguars" than just "BJL-users".

Regards

Matthias

The download worked for me (just some minutes ago),

but not the unzipped program:

The CD stops spinning immediately when (i think before) the screen flashes!

The version i had before worked :(

Hi!

Ok.. I realise that now... So it means the program is usefull for me... and Stone then, Hurray! =0) 2 users, its amasing ;)

Ahhmm.. the program should have NO Flash... I must have mixed up the versions or something.

I tested & uploaded the correct version now... and the dwl should work when CTS's server is online (which is most of the time!).

But if nothing else coding this tought me allot of usefull things about CD access... (Now if just that darn CDburner could get here! so i could take it yet another step)

Hello!

Ahhmm.. the program should have NO Flash... I must have mixed up the versions or something.

Content of the ZIP-archive was the same as i already had loaded from the link in your starting-message.

README.TXT 23.04.2003 13:55 154 bytes

BJL_CDBP.PRG 19.04.2003 13:32 4640 bytes

The CD stops spinning about 2 seconds before a white (?) FLASH occurs.

Same behaviour with and without MT-card inserted.

Matthias

Same here. The version you uploaded is kinda functional (got to the 'licensed to Atari' screen on SS) but doesn't work on some others, like my Native CD. Put the old version back, maybe? You've broken something ;)

Whata Heck!

Matthias:

1st of all the filesize described is not what i have! it is about 3,6Kb (but that could be dependent on your sector size ón your HD).

And what you describe is the Old version of the program.... Its a Yellow flash... and that is NOT in the new one! Only one color exists and it is RED and then it halts!

So.. the only thing i can sugest (if you are a happily unaware user of Explorer, is that it have cacehd the file on your HD and everytime you click you get the same file...

Its the only thing i can think of or all hell is breaking loose =) There isnt any flash in the version I delberately checked, recompiled, copied, removed all old versions and uploaded!!! (though with same filename! ..and a small change in the text file.. you should be able to read "hello all bjl modded jaguar users" ..after your suggestion :o) ..if you see "bjl users" you got the chached version.

Stone:

Dont know if you have the same (IE) problem... if not then Yes, i moved the detection of the MT cart to before the CD things are done, to speed up the detection of option pressed (MT manager start). But that shouldnt affect the program that much....

And.. I cant debugg the prg or the MT support with SS since i dont have it! *caugh*

Though! ..ObsObsObs! ..this is not a finished product! ...if it will ever be! Just that i need more debugg help and thought to increase my polulation by release it..

But this version should work better than the ..previous "unknown" version =)

Hi Symmetry,

seems that the new version does it's job.

No flashing, and it supports the MemoryTrack.
