dirtboy69 #1 Posted May 5, 2003 what if the companies forced outta the console race lately all rebounded and came back with a system together. atari(whoever owns it now) snk (or playmore if you want to get tech.) sega(if mircosoft doesn't buy them) if all of these got together cancelled all of there thrid party releases on other systems and put thier games only on a new system don't you think it would be dope? Miqorz #2 Posted May 5, 2003 I doubt SNK would be game because they're in the game with NEO GEO and Sega said they're DONE with consoles. As for atari....they're not the atari we all know and love they're just some company that carries the name and logo.
dirtboy69 #3 Posted May 5, 2003 sega says there done. and neo geo is really old now. the mvs has been around for how long?? anyway nothing new's been out on a neo geo console for ages and arcade is rather different from home consoles so i think neo would get into it if they had the only and say a atari and sega thrid party backing. Miqorz #4 Posted May 5, 2003 Umm the NEO GEO is still going strong... All their games sell out within a few months.
Clock #5 Posted May 5, 2003 I think 3 consoles is enough, it keeps healthy competition without diluting too much.

MegaManFan #7 Posted May 5, 2003 While that link proves you're right and the other poster didn't have all the facts, what's sad is that it's yet another 2-D side scrolling fighter game. They may have been it's bread and butter in their heyday, but Neo Geo will ultimately die by that sword. The console only catered to the ultra-rich to begin with, and how many of them have gotten bored with 2-D fighter games and moved on to a PS2 or an X-Box by now? I'm not going to start anything with you or nothing but how you can say that obviously shows you don't fully GET the NEO GEO... It was made pretty much JUST for 2-D fighters....and that's a good thing! What did you expect from a system that ONLY has joysticks (aside for NEO GEO Cd's joypad which is a diffrent story in itself) The system is for people who liked arcade 2-d fighters and Metal Slug. I don't see a problem nor do I see the neo geo going away any time soon.
MegaManFan #9 Posted May 5, 2003 It was made pretty much JUST for 2-D fighters....and that's a good thing! Maybe, but it was also made for people who can spend $750 on a console and $150 per game. In my mind that's NOT a good thing.

Ze_ro #11 Posted May 5, 2003 What did you expect from a system that ONLY has joysticks (aside for NEO GEO Cd's joypad which is a diffrent story in itself) So? The Atari had ONLY joysticks too, and hardly had any fighting games. You can't stereotype a system based on it's controller (unless it's only control is a light gun or something) The system is for people who liked arcade 2-d fighters and Metal Slug. I don't see a problem nor do I see the neo geo going away any time soon. MMF's point was that SNK seems content to just keep rolling out games that they pretty much already have. If the NeoGeo isn't popular, then what is the point of bring out yet more side scrolling fighters or street fighter ripoffs? They'd be better off trying some NEW stuff if they want to get sales up... perhaps some RPG's or strategy games or whatever (although I guess that's unlikely since the arcade market has always been their target) SNK's still stuck in the past making these games... they're doing them well at least, but the two genre's are on their last legs, and most of the gaming public isn't interested anymore. --Zero
MegaManFan #12 Posted May 5, 2003 It's an aquired taste....like moldy cheese. Pretty hard to acquire the taste for at that price unless you win the lotto!

The Atari had ONLY joysticks too, and hardly had any fighting games. You can't stereotype a system based on it's controller (unless it's only control is a light gun or something) You have too understand the time stance the 2600 is in.... Almost every system back then had joysticks. These days every console comes with joypads and for a system to only have joysticks these days really says something. Starscream #14 Posted May 5, 2003 Some of you obviously don't follow the Neo Geo. In the past year or so alone there has been new action platformers, a few puzzle games, sports and some fighters. Also the Hyper 64 board is only a few years old and has a shooter and a driving game. IMO, this is better than some of the current gen consoles. Pretty good for a so called dead system that has not changed in over 12 years in any way. So maybe those aren't interesting to everyone but give credit where it's due. Hell ask any arcade owner/operator what full size is the cash cow - I'd be willing to bet 95% will say the Neo Geo. Ask anyone who owns the home version and ask them what the most prized console they own is - again, I'd bet 95% say the Neo. Funny, I always see people bitching about modern games and how nobody cares about the little guys, and here's a company - though not the "original" company - that hasn't forgot what made them popular and what their customers like, and they very seldom get respect. Nintendo rehashes constantly but people say they are great I don't get it Price wise, it is no different than any other system - you have rarer more expensive and common dirt cheap. I've picked up quite a few brand new games for the same price or slightly more than what a new game for any current gen system costs. And I didn't win the lotto...... liquid_sky #15 Posted May 5, 2003 also, fatal fury was made BEFORE sf2, and most people will agree that SNK has more origional fighting games than capcom.
