Zeus #1 Posted May 5, 2003 I just placed my first bid on ebay. It was really conservative, and may easily be surpassed. I might think that I am doing this on purpose, because I am sort of "afraid" of winning. With all the stories of people getting burned you hear, I am aprehensive about online bidding. THe problem is, there is so much cool stuff out there. Anyhow, the price is pretty cheap, so no matter what happens, I'll be okay, it's just that this first ebay experience will likely decide whether or not to pursue this avenue in the future. jetset #2 Posted May 5, 2003 Ebay isn't all that bad. Yeah, plenty of people get burned, but there are great deals out there too. Keep an eye on the AA boards for some good info on how and what to buy. I personally won't buy if the seller is new or has a rating below 96-97%. Also, they TYPE of negatives they have are key. If they have negatives b/c of not responding to emails, I dont bother. To me, if you are selling something in an auction, you pay attention and respond. Also, no picture of the item is a biggie. I usually dont bother if they dont have a pic. Just my two cents...
Brad2600 #3 Posted May 5, 2003 Of all the auctions I've won, I've have absolutely NO problems with any of them! You just have to drive a hard bargain regarding shipping, and be wary of suspicious sellers. It's like buying stuff at Gamestop or any used video game store. They don't always have time to test carts or they may not know much about what they are selling. Same situation.
hhwolfman #4 Posted May 6, 2003 I have over 400 positives on ebay and only one problem. A person said they didnt get there item. I refunded there money. One other time there was some bad packing ON items shiped to me. Thats it over 400 tranasctions in three years and only one real problem. I dont even think twice anymore with a person with high positve feedback. Ebay has made it harder in the field for us, but how many of us were destine to find a Quadrun there anyway. Ebay has also made it easier for us to find what we are looking for. I am not rich, but when i have some extra cash it is nice to be able to get what I want with out searching for 2 or more months. CT #5 Posted May 6, 2003 I've won about 50 auctions on ebay and only once encountered a problem with a seller. Even that was resolved after a barrage of emails. Sometimes I think its reputation as a place where people scam like crazy is blown out of proportion. Granted, its still good to know your sellers.
