atari2600land's Blog - Fooling around with Odyssey 2 programming

Recommended Posts

Just got to keep on plugging away at Odyssey 2 programming lest I forget how. I've been wondering if I should make a version of the Secret Government Waffle Project for the Odyssey 2, The waffles would be the round characters (031h) while the guy would consist of a sprite, just one sprite, and I would check for collisions between the sprite and the waffles. And the powerups would be a third sprite so I wouldn't have to go through the rigamarole of putting extra code in. But nothing has been programmed for the Odyssey 2 yet. Regarding that, I have to do something now that work on Aaron the Aant is completed. So I thought about fooling around with music. Not one of the Odyssey 2's strong suits for non-whizzes at computer programming like myself. Ted did a great job with the music on Puzzle Piece Panic. I didn't know the Odyssey 2 could make such beautiful music. But now back to me. I made a "song" (with a loose usage of the word) using stock sfx. I also threw in a few "notes" that use the $A7-$AA registers (custom, if you will, sfx.) The first one was really short and repeated, so I decided to double the length to about 4 seconds and repeat that. I think the second one is a lot nicer than the first one. I think I might use it for title screen music of a new Odyssey 2 game. The one following Aaron, the one I haven't come up with an idea for yet. So that is what I did today. I also traded in my X-Box 360 at the local game store (only got $36 for it. Barf.) and I got Impossamole for the Turbo-Grafx 16 in the mail today. That game is, well, impossible. Perhaps that's where they got the game's name from: The fact that level 1 is impossible. The guy didn't want the box for the X-Box. I wonder why not. I mean, it's not like everybody kept theirs. And in case you were wondering why I traded in the X-Box 360 if I only got $36 for it: I never play it. So I might as well get a little to spend instead of it rotting away in the garage.
