Atari Poster

Recommended Posts

I shared this over on the Atari 8-bit Computers group on Facebook and figured I should post it here as well.

In an effort to learn how to create full-size (24x36) posters, I attempted to recreated this old Atari 800 poster with a modern look.

I'm planning on having a 24x36 poster printed for myself and a handful of 11x17 copies as well. The 24x36 are kind of expensive, but the 11x17 are reasonably priced.

I think it came out pretty nice. Let me know what you think?

What is expensive? The larger size would be much nicer to have.

In bulk quantities, 11x17 is about $2.00 each for printing, plus shipping tubes and shipping. 24x36 looks to be about $25 each just for printing. I'm going to do some more research to see if I can find a cheaper printing service.

I think I found a service were I could order 100 posters (100 lb gloss paper) for just under $10 a poster. Add in shipping tubes, end caps and shipping charges and it would be about $16 per for the first one and $10 for any additional (up to what could fit in a shipping tube). But I'm not sure I could find around 100 takers for the posters! :-)

Also, I'm not sure a legit printing service would print posters with an Atari logo on it.

Yes, that's the thing, you have to be really careful because it's not nice to get a cease and desist letter.

Well, at least you can print one for you and dad enjoy it!

Anyway, it's really beautiful and again congratulations!

After you print 100 posters, cease and desist.

Grabbed the PNG file. Thanks!

I have some Atari 2600 label scans that are poster sized that I've been meaning to turn into real posters (I think they're 11x17-ish). Maybe I can get this printed out when I do those. Do places like Kinkos or other chain printers generally give you trouble when printing out stuff like this? I know some people who made Neo Geo MVS case inserts said that some places won't print anything that looks copyrighted.

FedEx is extremely strict about copyright infringement. Actually, when you log into the print interface there's a huge notice letting you know about that. If you do it directly with the fedex employee you have a 90% chance that they will not print it.

Any suggestions for print shops that are a bit more reasonable?

It really depends on where do you live, you should try with a small print shop or maybe someone that you know that owns a plotter.

Several years ago I had the same problem, just wanted to print some things for personal enjoyment and I ended up buying a plotter, but also I design so .....

Maybe if you remove all branding, you'll be able room print them at kinko's.

Having a service print one 24x36 poster is expensive ($25-$35). Having them print 100 posters is much more reasonable ($6-$7). But who wants to make the $700 investment, track orders, ship orders. Not me! I looked into it and thought about it.

Easter Eggs: I hid my name and my initials in the poster. Can you find them? Also there is an Atari related Easter Egg as well.

If you want to get this poster printed, vistaprint.com is having a sale this weekend. Something like 50% off. Use code BESTDEALS for a 24x36 semi-gloss poster.

Do they have 'issues' with Atari copyrights?

Not as of yet. I ordered one copy. They haven't cancelled my order or anything, so I'll just have to wait and see.

I had two 24x36 posters printed at Vistaprint. No copyright complaints from them. They arrived yesterday, though I haven't seen them yet as I'm currently traveling for work. My wife took the attached photo. It looks really big!
