Atari ST emulation using real MIDI?

Recommended Posts

It doesn't appear that I'll be able to obtain an Atari ST1040 to run Cubase for a reasonable amount of money so my primary question is: are there options to emulate an Atari ST on the likes of either a Laptop or Desktop in conjunction with using real MIDI and what operating systems am I limited to?

What's your budget for this system?

I hear Cubase needs that hardware dongle to run, which I don't think can be emulated. The STeem SSE emulator does a good job of emulating MIDI. I have my MT-32 hooked up to my PC via USB adapter and can use it for Sierra games on my STeem emulator.

Where have you looked for an ST?

I'll second Steem.

MiST is also a great option - depending on your definition of 'reasonable' for budget, I suppose. I've been connecting it to my MU80 and running Mastertracks Pro (and getting the midi music when playing Pirates! :) )

Pirates eh? Gonna check that out. It just occurred to me to try MUNT with STeem. Can confirm it connects to MUNT (MT-32 Emulator for Windows)! Cool.
