Atari 1050 drive belt size

Recommended Posts

I went to copy an ATR to floppy to copy Express 850 on to, and got errors and they just did a format and realized the disk wasn't spinning.. I opened my 1050 to find it's drive belt had fallen off. I put it back on and tried again,, and same thing.

So can somebody tell me the size of the belt it uses? Clearly the one in the drive has stretched, it about 17.5 cm, but that it as worn out...

There's a local store that has belts (or at least it use to) I just need the right size. I found a service manual, but I didn't see a mention of the belt's size..

btw: the drive was made in Hong Kong

thanks geeks:)

Depends on your mechanism. It sounds like you might have a World Storage belt, though more than likely its a Tandon. BestElectronics might have belts.

You'll want to get an original fabric-reinforced belt because of the amount of torque required. Best Electronics sells them.

I opened it again, it's a World Storage drive. I took a bunch of photos of the insides for future reference too.. I'm hoping to get a belt locally though since shipping from USA to Canada would probably be more then the belt costs and nobody seems willing to just stick a small part in a first class envelope and send it as letter mail..

You will need to clean that crud off the motor spindle. Do you have a pic of the belt? A lot of the time the WST belts fall off because the floppy door is closed down and the hub is slightly off center, the motor spins and the belt pulls off because the hub won't turn.

OR

The belt is shot.

Here's a photo of the belt... Doesn't look bad, but has no stretch to it to speak of. But when I put it back on it seemed snug..

I keep it out the last time I opened the drive figuring I might try to get to a electronics store that has belt (or at least use to)

If i have to mail order one, I may get a spare for my other 1050 also..

Belt orders are shipped for free world wide. I got one for a tape deck once.

Be sure to check out the belt measuring guide.

THanks, I'll check them out.

I have emailed Best Electronics twice now and no response, so I'm guessing their shut down for Christmas.. or maybe retired.. hard to tell with some places..

I am curious if you ever found a Canadian source for belts that fit? (as I'm also in Canada) Looking to refresh a few Tandon drives if I can find them cheaply...
