Help needed with a 2600 game that only works on my 7800

Recommended Posts

I have a copy of river raid 2 for the 2600 that works great in my 7800, but for some reason it won't work in any of my 2600 systems...

My go to system for 2600 games is my Sunnyvale heavy six, it has the best color and it's the least fuzzy. But this game just won't work in it.

When I try to play it, it works for about 30 seconds then it starts to scramble and eventually the screen goes grey and the sound loops. It does this even if I just turn it on and let it sit. I thought it was dirty do I cleaned the cart and tried again with the same result, so I tried cleaning the console, and still no luck. I tried 2 other 2600 systems with the same result. As a last resort I tried it in my 7800. And to my surprise it works flawlessly. Although the 7800s colors are more washed out and fuzzy than my 2600.

Any ideas on why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? This is the first 2600 game that I've ever had trouble with so I'm kind of at a loss for what to try.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Common problem that a small handful of later games don't work with older systems and RR2 is one of them. I think we figured out it's a timing thing and there's a workaround in the form of a minor hack to your system. Forget the details right now, but here's the link:

Awesome! I was worried that the problem was with the cartridge. I guess I'll just have to play this game on a different console. I don't really want to modify my heavy six.
