Okay, I'm ready to try again. Someone sell me an Inty?

Recommended Posts

Short version: I used to live on solar power, and it fried.. multiple Intellivisions. i kept my games, though. It was kinda heartbreaking because I basically murdered 5 of an endangered species, but here it is again. I now live in a place with a real power grid.

Anyone got an Inty (preferably not an Inty 2 but a man cannot be picky) they'd be willing to sell me?

Convert one of your fried consoles into an Ultimate Intellivision with a Raspberry Pi and an Ultimate PC Interface like this project and this project. I can provide you with the software.

I can make my own retropie, thanks. Want to buy original hardware.

I can understand that as there is nothing quite like slotting that cartridge in and sliding the button to on.

I should however have another go and complete my Ultimate Intellivision project that I abandoned nearly two years ago (I just couldn't get the roms to load through wi-fi)...one day....

Does your wifi name have any special characters in it

Ie not letters or numbers?

Apparently Ultimate FB has issue with that, I had to rename my network but once I did they loaded perfectly.

No the wifi name is a simple word.

I will try it again in the coming year as I would like to get it up and running and I do plan to put it all in a original console box for nostalgia value as I have quite a few dead ones to choose from.

Check out the USB ROM service option that's turned off by default in some RetroPi images. If you enable it, all you have to do is put new ROMs on a USB stick, insert it into the Pi, and the ROMs transfer automatically. No need to use wifi then.

That sounds interesting.

On the Intellivision US site there are 2 downloads suggested being Retropie 2.6 & 3.2.1. Are these suitable and if so where would I find the USB ROM option service.

Sorry townparkradio for derailing your thread - Any one got a spare console to sell him??

I think the usbromservice is turn on by default in those versions and later. If you're running one of those, it's a simple setup to get your USB drive ready. Directions are here: https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Transferring-Roms

If you've got one of the builds with usbromservice turned off, you can turn it on manually:

  1. Enter the RetroPie Setup menu within the RetroPie menu in EmulationStation.
  2. Select Setup / Tools.
  3. Select usbromservice - USB ROM Service
  4. Enable USB ROM Service.

Byteknight can probably clarify some of this, as I haven't done any setup on my Pi in quite awhile. The units he sells have the USB service turned on by default. You can even run the ROMs directly from the USB drive, but it's more involved to get the Pi to do that.

That looks about right. Here's how to do it from command line (hit F4 to get there):

cd RetroPie-Setup
sudo ./retropie_setup.sh

Move down to 3. Setup / Configuration -> 825 USB ROM Service -> 1 Enable USB ROM Service

Make sure there's a folder named "retropie" in the root directory of your USB thumb drive or it won't work.

Putting the train back on the track - somebody get townparkradio a working console (maybe along with a surge protector)!

it was actually a function of the fact that an inverter doesn't provide "pure" 60hz sinewave power. A surge protector would do nothing; I'd have needed a power conditioner. By the time I realized what the problem was, I had already murdered several irreplaceable 1610 chips. In my defense... everything else I had ran just fine on the dirty power.

I feel your pain, I'm looking for another Inty too. I have 2 busted Inty's ( 3 technically). On my only totally working unit, I moved it yesterday and just by doing that, it fried. My ribbon cable was delaminating and ended up shorting out the logic board. That's what I get for not replacing the ribbon I suppose.

My Inty II has audio only and a black screen. I have a spare board that almost works but it got problems too. I've had bad luck with these consoles in general.. makes me just want to stick with a Pi for now on but I gotta have the real deal too. Anyways, good luck with your quest for a working Inty, I feel your pain!

Sorry about that. Turns out the one I was offering only has one working controller. If Humblejack has a fully functioning INTV I'd go with his since I don't know when I'll have the parts to fix this one. He's an extremely trustworthy seller/trading partner so you're in good hands.

Woot! Got one at a very reasonable price form Humblejack and it works very well. So... what homebrew should I buy first, guys? I already own DK Arcade.

that looks really good.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it that's for sure..

Also Ms Pac Man is a must..

Man this list is just to long on how many great homebrews there are.. I would start with ones that are still available and at original price.. Once you get into to the aftermarket.. Prices skyrocket for homebrews.

Cheers brother and Enjoy!!!

So, if my wife only let me buy one homebrew every four months, what should my first one be? Not asking you to decide me or anything, this is just for fun, and to help me and others learn more about them.
