Fester's Quest

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any info on Fester's Quest? I downloaded the file below from the Dead Hacker's Society website, but no matter what OS I try on my 32-in-1 it crashes after continuing from the Silly Venture screen (space bar) and I can't find any game requirements or instructions anywhere. I have a 256K 1200XL (PAL converted). The file is 105K, so I'm thinking it may require extended memory, but maybe 256K isn't enough? Is it NTSC? Any help is highly appreciated! Thanks!

How do you load the game? From a floppy running Atari DOS 2.0, or something else?

Works here on Altirra as an Xe with 128K, its a bit fiddly and very easy to exit the game after it ends by accident..

I'm running Pal, Version 2 XL / XE os

Loads directly as a xex, no dos needed..

I just discovered it's an issue loading through my APEloader, I transfered it to my MyIDE 2 cart and it runs fine. Thanks!

The game for sure uses addresses 4096-4168 during the loading process. It can be too low for some loaders.

Well,

the game works with 64k RAM, but not from DOS, use a gamedos or bootloader instead. It uses several intro-pictures, a title-picture and one or more extro-pictures (all unpacked, mostly G2F). Thats why it has a length of approx. 105k, but not that much gameplay.

Evil as I am, I created a shortened version for me with only the title-picture (which also contains the manual) and the game and packed everything - length was approx 23kbytes then... but the game was as bad / boring as before...
