Prototype Jaguar all in one CD/Cart combo

Recommended Posts

Anyone ever snag one of them?

It's empty - they never made a revision of the hardware that could fit in that case.

And like Jay said, it's a helluva lot of money if you're just getting the plastic...

Who's selling it? I didn't see the price listing anywhere...

And Jay shouldn't talk... owning an empty JagVR is just as bad! LOL!

haha! Honestly, I think it's worse to have the Jag VR empty case.... I'd like to find that Jag 2 empty case, I'm curious if the Jag 2 board I have would fit.... Wish someone had this.....of course they'd probably want a grand for it...

They had the board AND the casing finished on the Jag 2? I always thought that they cancelled it early in developement. That's awesome.

They did cancel it early on, but the case was designed for an all-in-one Jag/JagCD machine and the Jag2 contains the same hardware normally found on the CD drive. If you figured out how to connect it up you could add a CD mech to it and see how well the CD function worked ;)

I wonder how small they could have got it when it left the proto stages...that's one hell of a big board :ponder:

I was just saying that on Jaysmiths statement that it is a lot of money for a piece of plastic regarding the VR unit so I just took that over to the Mockup for the Jag2

Okay. For a second there I thought it was for sale, from the way you phrased that.

Is the board shaped anything like that case? I mean the location of the cart slot and ports would be a dead giveaway. You could probably get the scale of the case because there's a cart in the photo to compare it to.

I always thought that the mockup was rendered not actually molded. :?

There was something wooden as far as I know.

There are some Pics with Sam Tramiel carrying around such a thing on E3 or something, not sure about which show though.,....

Yeah that´s what I was talking about, as you can see the ports on the back of the jag are empty so there was nothing in it....unfortunatley :-(

Well still nice thing although I really like the old Jag design more, to be honest. The lid on the combo does look even cheaper than the present one....

Hi!

Hmmm.... does the cartridge look seated or do you think hes holding it in in the second pic?

Turning the picture (or the head) at 90° shows that he is fixing the cartridge by pressing it into the "slot". But won't we all do this when walking around with our mobile Jaguar?

Matthias

PS: You are right, the cartridge isn't sitting perpendicular in the "slot".

Yeah... in the first pic he is holding it upright so it is sitting in the slot fine. In the second pic since he's holding it to his side I figured he was holding the cart in. The fact that his thumb is securely held against the cart reinforces this idea but what really made me notice was the fact that the cart is further into the slot where his thumb is and less on the other end. So the cart is crooked. It makes sence that it would be if it is indeed empty. You would think they would have at least constructed something to hold the cart in while he walked around with that thing.

Those pics were taken by Don Rogers and myself at the '95 CES show.

Sam Tramiel exited one of the conference rooms holding that baby and we walked up to him but he was very tight-lipped. He showed it to us but wouldn't let us take any footage. So we parked ourselves at a nearby game kiosk and pretended to be filming the games on display. Don zoomed in with his video camera as best he could. Those pics are screen-grabs from his tape. Sam told us it was only a shell but it sure would be nice to have it.

the atari jaguar 1 is next to the 3do m2 the most sexiest looking console in the world! even ps2 cant match that! never mind with the jagcd on it!

ps2 do the math :P

Sneaky! :)

Did you happen to see where the holes for controller ports were? The proto Jag2 boards have them at the front-left, is why I ask...looks like they would be better placed centrally on that mockup, which is why I don't think the Jag2 baords would fit it...cart slot's in the right place tho :)

Jaysmith's Jaguar2 boards look like engineering prototype boards, and surely would not be the ones that would go into the case in the photos. The motherboards appear to have a lot of test points for engineering testing. I'm sure the location of the controllers was just where they happened to put them.
