Best Arcade ports not available on other Ataris?

Recommended Posts

The topic name confused me after then reading the post :)

I get it but it sort of confused and I'll bet the answer is none in the end, I can't imagine an arcade port that would only be on one platform....Hope I'm wrong :)

I'm struggling to think of any Atari 400/800 arcade ports that didn't appear on an Atari game system (but that may have on non-Atari consoles?), let alone the best. Especially if you count homebrews.

Wiki (yeah totally reliable I know) says that Kaboom on the 5200 was Activisions attempt to port Avalanche to that machine...Obviously not an official thing..

I believe that is accurate. Not an official port, but I remember hearing Avalanche was the inspiration for Activision's Kaboom. I like Kaboom better, but Avalanche is an actual arcade port. I would imagine it may not have ever been ported to any other system besides the Atari 8-bit computers.

The 7800 has plenty it missed out on with it's small library and underwhelming support. And I'm pretty sure there are arcade titles that made it to the 8-bit but not the 5200 for the same reason.

What are some of the best arcade game ports available on 8-bit that arent on other consoles?

The first one that came to mind was Donkey Kong, because Atari had publishing rights to computers only, and made a great port for Atari 8-bit and wasn't responsible for the terrible port on the 2600. But it also came to 7800 eventually so it doesn't quite fit.

What about Mr. Do? It got a decent port from Datasoft, and I don't think it's on any Atari consoles.

Wish I could say Zookeeper and Bagman, but even the A8 never saw said ports. Would be easier to come up with a list of arcade games that *should* have been available for the Atari computers, but are not. :(

Boulder Dash in an arcade game that was only available for A8 until the 2600 version was released in recent times. Isn't this a rare case where the home version came first though? Arcade released slightly later IIRC.

Yes.. Boulderdash is one of those weird games that started on home systems and got ported to Arcades. The Atari 8-bit version is the original BTW!

A few others that made the jump from home to arcade: (off the top of my head)

Pitfall II

Choplifter

Loadrunner and Spelunker were two others (home to arcade).

How about Moon Shuttle? I love that game.

Rush'n Attack (Green Beret) is another one that is not on other Atari platforms. There has to be a few more, but I can't think of any at the moment.
