repetto74
Hi, Hi have modded an Atari 600XL to S-video as per the mod tutorial posted on this forum. I do have video on screen (using a quality cable purchased on the net) but no colors at all :-( Where am I wrong then??
R.Cade
Sounds like you have Luma but no Chroma signal. First verify the cable you are using is correct, then you can check from their backwards to your mod to make sure it is correct.
repetto74
Can I have the pinouts of the video din socket on the 600xl? Are these correct? http://atariage.com/forums/topic/87280-how-to-make-8-bit-av-cable/?hl=s-video+cable
R.Cade
Well, that's the trick. There is no such thing on a 600XL. If there is, it was built as homebrew.
repetto74
Well I have still to confirm the B&W video now. Problem is that I am using a bad video converter (crap sucking garbage from China) which is really faulty! When used with a ZX Spectrum I could see some washed out colors but not with the 600XL. But looking at this video now I may just see that color is there. I am waiting for a decent converter to confirm. PS : I do have the DIN video socket on the 600XL machine as this is a PAL version. R.Cade
Agree, that just may be a bad converter. The kind-of-240p signal from these old computers is not always recognized correctly.
repetto74
Just received the Tendak converter S-video/RGB to HDMI. This thing is really awesome, image quality looks really nice! I thing it does worth the price. Only doubt I have is concerning a color artifact. Does Donkey Kong display in dark pink on the original ? Have tested on a C64 and also very nice output but I do see some pink shades on white characters. Hope it is my old LCD display who did that. PS : I have checked with Donkey Kong cartridge and our favorite monkey has a brown color in there . I think it is fine then. Also on youtube Atari800 version of Donkey Kong Junior has DK in a violet color. Do not know why this choice it is interesting Edited February 23, 2017 by repetto74
wemichener
Is that the Tendak mini converter?
repetto74
wemichener yes it is the Tendak RGB S-Video to HDMI upscaler. Looks a quality product and far beyond my expectations !
repetto74
I mean it totally meet my expectation, quality is just great considering the age of those 8-bit machines.
