ferghead
When I announced I was covering Glib on my podcast, I was contacted by Mike Montana, the son of Rich Montana, who programmed Glib for Qualtronics Devices. Mike very graciously gave me an interview for the episode (he actually did some work on the game with his dad), and also allowed me to publish a writeup that he did about the experience. If you'd like to read it, you can do so here: http://2600gamebygamepodcast.blogspot.com/2017/02/the-atari-game-glib-by-mike-montana.html The podcast episode can be found here if you are interested: http://hwcdn.libsyn.com/p/4/e/3/4e33ecd8169aac56/134_-_Glib_by_Selchow_and_Righter.mp3?c_id=14204377&expiration=1488394025&hwt=21b37957972a7fb6be4f66af88451a8c Thank you! 9

+save2600
Nice write up! Never paid *any* attention to Glib before (goofy name) and didn't realize how Scrabble-like it was. And I love Scrabble!
+Psionic
Nice. Is Mike the one who had several sealed copies of Glib in an original factory box up for auction last year? Whoever that was, he claimed to be involved with the game's development. That's a shame about the display timing issue. I always wondered how and why a game like this that was produced by a major game company came to be so rare. I guess that question has been answered. I'm a big Scrabble fan and I actually tracked down the guy who ran QDI in its final years looking for info about this game. I believe he was the son of Pete Farentinos. He hadn't been at QDI during Glib's production, so he wasn't able to tell me much or even point me in the right direction. It's good to know that the story's finally been told. I'll have to shoot him an email and direct him to this article.

AtariBuff
I managed to buy a CIB copy last year (not sealed though), and it's nice to learn the background history - thanks for making this available, ferghead

My mother used to work for Qualtronic Devices back in the early 1980’s. She used to talk about a game called Glib. In the summer of 1983 (I think…) she spoke with Pete and got me my first job there sweeping floors, emptying garbage cans and general janitorial tasks. I remember playing it there on my lunch breaks etc. Game was quite simple by today’s standards, but this story brings back much nostalgia. I still live in Smithtown and occasionally pass by that place and remember my first “real” job. Thanks for posting!
