Price surge for Intellivision Flashback Overlays?

I put all the "orphan" ones in with the original game boxes they correspond to and keep the rest as extras in the original zip locking baggies they came in. The only exceptions being World Championship Baseball, which is in my copy alongside the original overlays, and the Chess/Backgammon/Checkers sets which I keep with my Triple Challenge. My thinking is since these were released by the current rights holders for Intellivision, they count as an official release and should be kept with their actual games. Sort of like an update set in baseball/football card releases.

Interesting organization idea. You don't keep them seperate as part of their original set, but used them to go along with prior 'official release' games. 30 years too late, but still official.

Here's what I store my overlays in (from The Container Store: Shallow Mini Latch Box Clear - pair / SKU#: 10060801)

https://www.containerstore.com/s/mini-latch-boxes/d?productId=10035341&q=Latch%20box%20plastic

And I have them separated / grouped by:

-Mattel/INTV

-3rd party (Imagic, etc.)

-Home-brew / modern

-Flashback

-Sears (Phil Boland's set)

-Orphan (Psycho Stormtrooper)

-reproductions I made

-misc/spares

Exactly. If anything, these belong with an Intellivision Flashback system since that is what they were made for. But being sold as a separate item with no branded packaging, I consider them to be an update from the current official Intellivision company and used them to "complete" as many original games as I had. The rest I keep as spares or new variants of the original overlays.

Had they been packaged they way Psycho Stormtrooper did with his sets, I would have kept them in their original box. Since they were released as a loose set, I decided to give them a proper home. This is why I didn't make boxes for them even though I know they would sell. I consider these to already have boxes they belong to in the form of the original games.

Wow A set of these just sold for $300.00 on ebay. I watched out of curiosity. I have a set but don't have intentions of selling them but man if they go fro that kind of price....lol

Although after looking at the bids I am suspicious of the one that won with a feedback rating of (1) But nevertheless the bid just before that looks real and was still offering 300.00.

Well I am no Ebay expert so take that with a grain of salt....

I know the seller. He is on Atari Age. Maybe he will reveal himself to verify if the bidder indeed paid this super high price! Nothing surprises me really anymore with stuff related to retro gaming.

For future reference, here is top bids. Still a few bidders that were over 100.

I used my Intellivision overlays set #1 from Psycho Stormtrooper to complete all the games that did not come with overlays and put them in there respective boxes.

I never had set 2, and set 3 is still sealed in the box. Plus, Psychos first set came in a little cardboard box just big enough to fit the overlays, so breaking it up was no problem. i will keep my Flashback overlays intact.

When and if I sell my collection all games will come with overlays!

Hmm, I wonder what a NIB Flashback with supplemental overlays and a CGE numbered console sleeve signed by most of the BSRs would sell for...and some free buttons too :ponder:

wait. which buttons?

Did i ever make any flashback buttons? May as well.....now that the trademark expired!

This is what I did with my Flashback set as well. Despite their huge uptick in value I'm not about to put the set back together and sell it. Unless it hits Spiker money, lol

Just checking out old threads. Here is how I store my flashback overlay supplemental sets. 1 deck is complete, 1 deck is missing 1 set of overlays and 1 deck is missing 1 1/2 sets of overlays. That's how they arrived. I ordered the Bridge Card Deck holders. They are a perfect fit. Print out and paste on the logo. Not fancy but do the job quite well.

It also works for the Orphan Overlays set 1.
