Really into Genesis all of a sudden

Recommended Posts

Ok I got my first Genesis in 1993 for Christmas and I've always liked it. Back then I was into sports games and the popular games of the time when I was a teenager sonic and fighters like Mortal Kombat and Street fighter 2. I quickly grew out of the tournament fighter genre it never really was my thing just what everyone else was playing at the time and ss a teenager of course joined in to be part of the crowd so to speak. As an adult the Genesis was a system I've had but never collected for that much. Recently I picked up a copy of road blasters and Thunder Force 2 and holy crap have I been missing out! These shooters are fantastic what a great arcade style fun! I've been reading about all the other great shooters on the Genesis like Truxton and Fire shark and I'll be picking up some more genesis shooters soon like the two I mentioned. I just picked upTask Fore Harrier on eBay hope it's a good one I got it at a good price .

Lots of great games on the Genesis. It really is almost an overlooked system. I feel like that'll change eventually.

The weird thing to me is that it led the 16 bit era for several years; the SNES only really took over towards the end of that generation. But nowadays everything is SNES, SNES, SNES, and nobody even talks about the Genesis. But you can't lead the console race for 3-4 years without a ton of great games, and the Genesis has them. It's only a matter of time before more people rediscover that.

Mega Drive ruled in Europe, especially UK, it had the wickedest games

My favourite, The Warehouse Game, and the awesome Golden Axe and Phantasy Star series

The Genesis is a great system. It started off the best generation in gaming IMO. As a kid and today I enjoy the Road Rash series and all the Sonic games. Lately I've been thinking about getting an Everdrive cart for it so I can experience more games. I'd still like to pick up Virtua Racing. Just watching videos of it is very impressive.

I also like all the add ons. I come from a PC background so I love expanding the power of computers. I had a 32X years ago but never got a CD unit. I remember looking though the Funcoland newspaper as a kid with my brother and getting super pumped up about getting one. Then we eventually went there and they were all sold out. Total bunmer and neither of us tried again to get one. I think I will eventuallythough.

yep, no one talks about the poor old Genny. It's about time someone made a website and forum dedicated to it.

It works fine on my real Gennys and on the Dollar General 80-in-one system. Some of the games are the Jap versions, but that's not a deal breaker for me. I have no exp with Retron anything.

There's also a great used game store over here in NW Georgia if you're ever out here.

I have the crappy ATgames Dollar General genesis but I'm really enjoying playing on the retron 5 it emulates much better than the dollar store genesis plus the ability to save your game at any spot and restart is awesome . The reason I was wondering if it would work with the retron 5 as if I understand how it works the system downloads the rom for each cartridge when you put it in sometimes this is instant sometimes this takes a few seconds didn't know if I would have trouble with so many games on one cartridge but if it does I can play it on the dollar store Genesis or better yet get a real Genesis.

I usually leave it in my Genny-2. Those can be had around 10-20 bucks sometimes. The only issue I've noticed is that the board on the cart is thicker than regular carts and the leading edge is squared off instead of having a bevel. To avoid the possibility of damaging my port pins, I used a small file to bevel the edge slightly.

That's the cool thing about collecting classic/retro/vintage (whatever label) systems, you get to play games that you missed out on the first time around even on consoles you've once owned. So you get that first-time feeling playing those games along with the warm nostalgia. :)

Sad to say I didn't had a Genesis in the 90's since I focused more on computers at the time, but the games I'm now playing were well worth the wait...

He doesn't need to get a multicart, he just needs to find an abandoned video store like the guy in this video. (He finds a bunch of Genesis games at about 4 minutes in.)

Also looks like there might be a boxed Gun Nac for the NES in there... but we're talking Genesis here...
