+toddtmw #1 Posted March 10, 2017 So, I've played a lot of games and seen lots of game lists. What about non-games? When I had my Atari back in the day, I used paper clip to do school papers, I used some sort of list manager or database to do a mailing list for a neighbor. Later I changed it to something else, but I cannot remember what they were. Print shop to print signs, cards and banners. I wrote something in Atari BASIC that I used to print case inserts for my home-made music cassettes. Is anyone using any non-game apps these days? What were your most useful applications and utilities? Todd
kiwilove #2 Posted March 10, 2017 Yes - it would be nice to see a list of popular apps and what makes them stand out from the others? Speedscript really stood out for it's clear and easily read on screen display and easy functionality. It was the best choice for me, amongst the various wordprocessors - though I did not try anything later on. A listing of the graphics programs would be nice to see - for the early ones - Micropainter stood out, then Fun With Art, and the Atari touch tablet was better than the Atari Light Pen for drawing purposes. I don't run apps anymore on the Atari - and for wordprocessing - my choice would be - a tablet with keyboard attached, where I can take it anywhere. Kyle22 #3 Posted March 10, 2017 Much fine software to choose from: http://atari8.co.uk/the-last-word/ http://www.atarimania.com/pgemainsoft.awp?type=U&system=8 http://ftp.pigwa.net/stuff/collections/holmes%20cd/Holmes%202/Atari%20Archives/Applications/index.html http://ftp.pigwa.net/stuff/collections/holmes%20cd/Holmes%202/Atari%20Archives/Printing/index.html http://ftp.pigwa.net/stuff/collections/holmes%20cd/Holmes%202/Atari%20Archives/Printing/index.html That's only a small sample of what's out there. Lots of Print Shop stuff in that last link.

+toddtmw #6 Posted March 10, 2017 So, I'm pretty sure the later list manager we used was Synfile. What was the popular app that it replaced? (I cannot recall the name.) We had a mailing list that we created and used it to print mailing labels. Then, when Synfile came out, we were somehow able to convert the data we were using to that app. I just cannot recall the name of the original app and it is driving me crazy! Anyone? Thanks.
