Magnavox Odyssey 2 and Videopac G7200 System box replicas

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone from the forum. I'm in the middle of a project that I started at the 3DO, Vectex and ColecoVision forums, which is replicating the box from the consoles. I was Having a terrible time trying to find empty boxes so I decided to build them myself. I need the boxes to organize my consoles in a neat and ,why not, beautiful way to display them. The ideia is just storing them and not try to fool other people into thinking they are the real deal, but also to make them as similar as possible. i got great collaboration from fellow member Igallair who provided all the information and clean pictures from the Vectrex box so I could start the project. you can see the result at http://atariage.com/forums/topic/263026-vectrex-console-box-and-dimensions/?do=findComment&comment=3720249. It's a work in progress.

Now the part where concern you guys. I have the Magnavox Odyssey 2 system and the Videopac G7200. Igallair already told be that if I needed the art for the Odyssey 2, he would provide the pictures and dimensions. And if someone has the rarer box for the 7200 I would be forever grateful (ask Igallair) if you could post pics and dimensions for it too. I would be posting my progress with the replication and would make the material available for whoever asks for it to use it to build their own boxes. I'll leave the link of the 3DO and ColecoVision projects as well so you can see I'm serious and the work is worth it.

Thanks for your time and hope to hear from you guys soon

Another thing... I would be more than happy to try to replicate any box from any system from anybody who ask me to do it. And I make replica boxes for the cartridges too. Just ask me.

Hello again.

I got a request to design a replica box for the Videopac C7420 Home Computer Module, If anyone has it and be kind the post the dimensions of the box and some high quality pictures, it would be awesome!!! As always, I'll post the results here and make it available for whoever wants it.

This is the box http://www.the-nextlevel.com/odyssey2/inserts/image.php?image=collect/hardware/peripherals/c7420_box.jpg

I'll start a side project for the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes Master Strategy Game box and board too. I'll post that too.

Thanks again.

That looks great... was a game cart for SH ever created? I seem to recall a prototype was found but did anyone figure out the rules, tokens, etc?

BTW, if nobody else sends you the pics and measurements of The Voice box I'll post those tomorrow.

Hello metarog, I was surprised when someone made that request for the box. It seems they released the art of what would be the box, and an incomplete art for the board. It seems that the game was only released on Renes Multicart, but it's very hard to play without the instructions, which was never released. There's some symbols in the game that I can use to complete the art for the board, but it will be something completely made up, just for storage and aesthetic purposes.

I woulb be forever grateful for the voice pics and measurements.

And thanks for the compliments.

Okay, here are the pics... my box is not in the best shape so you will have to do some touch up but it is complete.

First 2 pics are of the wider sides and are 15 1/2 by 8 inches.

The next two are the narrower sides and measure 15 1/2 by 6 1/2 inches.

Next are the ends which measure 8 by 6 1/2 inches or 7 1/2 with the flap.

Finally is a pic of the two interior flaps that are attached to the main box and measure 6 by 3 inches each.

If you need anything else feel free to let me know.

metarog, metarog, what can I say but thank you... I can't thank you enough for this. It's so hard to find that information that when someone does it, It's hard for me to believe... This is perfect. I'll keep you informed on my progress and if any doubt comes along, I'll ask you, for sure. Is it possible to send pics of the styrofoam also? I'd like to run a parallel project and test my habilities on that also.

Thanks again

No problem and you are very welcome.

First 4 are of the right insert measuring 7 1/2 by 5 3/4 by 2 inches

Next 6 pics are of the left measuring 7 1/2 by 5 3/4 by 3 inches. There are al kinds of crevices and of course the slots for the Voice itself so best to measure a Voice unit and get that as a fitting measurement.

I'll make the box first and adapt the inserts when it's done. The art part is fast and easier, but the assembling takes some time, but I'll be posting and keeping you up to date with the progress of our project.

There's something I would like to share with you guys that are helping me on my projects, before I start a topic about it. I am working on another project, with the collaboration and idea from Rafael Cardoso, also from Brazil, on a mock up box for the never released The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. The project really is going fast and is really doing well. I even built a prototype to test the materials for the most accurate box, and even the first prototype turned out amazing. We are still working on the text, because we have to make it up from scratch, I have some ideas on how to build the board and we've yet to create the instructions (from scratch). (Since it's only available from Rene's cart) so, if anyone is interested on the project, please tell me so. And we would really appreciate if someone with more information on the game, would share with us. And if you think I shoul post a separated topic for it to get help, and make the box available.

Thanks again

Update on the The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes box. I did a couple of more prototype boxes to test materials, and the second box was a disaster, a total mess. I won't even post the pictures. But the third one is really getting somewhere. I'm still having some problems with the assembly, but I'm always working on a solution. The text still need work, and we're working on that as well. Here it is:

Edited: I don't know why it's getting upside down, but I think you get the idea.

Update on my the Voice box for those who cares:

I used some different elements but with minimal change, the hardest part was the neon writings, I couldn't replicate it to be so similar to the real one, but I didn't want to use the picture from the box either. But I think that overall it's pretty nice.

Wow, those boxes are looking good! Any updates on the Sherlock repros? This is something I would really like for my collection when completed.

Are you using existing Master Strategy boxes with new artwork? Just curious in case I should keep a spare box around.

I'm about to post a new topic about the Sherlock Holmes project. Some people came together and are considering to officially release the game (which includes Rene, the ethical owner of the rights of the game). The idea is to release with a brand new box, exclusive miniatures and boards and all. The topic will seek interest from the people and also see if someone opposes or are planning the release paralelly, so there's no confusion or heart feelings. And also to see the real interest from the community. The project is developing really well and in a fast pace. The only problem I see so far is with the plastic cartridge holders, I cant seem to find a solution for them. But I will. I'll post some pictures here for you to see. It's from the board (the art is not finished, but the base is almost there) and the latest box.

And as always, the pics are sideways...

It is looking impressive so far. If you get stuck on the plastic cart trays you can just make the little disc that goes onto the removable rectangular cover and just have people glue it onto an existing Master Strategy one. Not ideal but since they are the most generic part it might be the most expedient way.

Do you have any ideas about what the instruction manual will be?

Working on that too, that's most Rene's and Rafa's work (they already had an impressive amount of work a few years ago), and I didn't get to it yet, because I don't have the game, so it's difficult for me to visualize, but it's going to be real nice and most important and impressive to me for an unreleased game, very explanatory. I'll keep you updated through here.

Another Sherlock Holmes update. I'm posting here as well because there may be some people who don't follow the Sherlock topic can get them as well.

"Hello evebody!!! Another update and another interest check! We're way past halftime on the project. We're 99% satisfied with the box, 90% satisfied with the board, the overlays are looking great (we are still choosing the style and button format), the chips are on hold and the instructions are starting to take form. Like I said before there's nothing physical to show, but we're up and running and really excited for the outcome!

The interest check is if there's anybody who would like the Videopac version, so I could adapt the box, the overlay (the odyssey version is much wider) and the instructions manual. Those are easy to adapt."

Thanks again for your time!

Aaaand here I come with another box request...

Since I don't own any videopac master strategy games, I've been researching for some boxes so I can make one of the Sherlock's to look alike, but I can only find the front of the boxes on google, and one from the side. I've noticed that the videopac versions have videopac written on the side, so could any of you nice souls that owns one of the videopac master strategiy games (it can be any game of the three released in any language) send me some pictures of the sides and bottom, it would be very helpful and I would be eternally grateful.

And another idea I had ( and I dont know if its a bold move, I haven't discussed with Rafa, the project leader) is that, when the project is ready and all the text is done, if anyone would like to translate it in their language and send it back to me, I would make the videopac in their own language. I noticed that since the videopac is the european version, there's a lot of different languages released, so I'd be willing to do that per request. We can do that interest check on the pre order. What do you guys think?

And please, please send me the pics.

Thanks again

Going back to the The Voice project!!!

I finally got to finish it. (The art part at least). I've been working on the Sherlock Holmes project a lot and left it aside for a while, but finally got some time to do it.

I'm posting the final art of the remaining faces and the comparision and the "unfolded" as well. I'm going to print a mini box and post the pictures later on the week.

My patience with finding the right printing place and cardboard is running out, so i decided to create on of my own. It's a little more work, but I like the challenge. I'll post the results as well.

The styrofoam part is the most challenging part because I'm building to look almost the same as the real ones too.

And I've added some small text relating that it's a mock up and not the real one (not that I think it's that similar, but some members on the 3-DO forum suggested and I thought it was a great idea.

Thanks again to metarog for all the pics and time dispended on taking them.

The The Voice boxes are ready!! Both big and mini. As I said before I decided to go full guerilla style on the box so, instead of looking for a place to print it all in one piece, I printed each face separately. First I assembled the box itself with the cardboard. Just plain, with no art. Then I glued each side and glue black tape on the edges. I never thought it would work, so I didn't take any pictures of the process, but it turned out really great and I'm very happy with my box. I consider this project done. Now on to the styrofoam part.

Here are the pics.

Thanks again.
