moving Atari 800, 800XL and floppy drives

Recommended Posts

I'm going to be moving in a month.. and have the original boxes for my two 1050 drivers and 800XL, and 850, the 1010 and 800 do not have their boxes though.

I'm thinking I couple original box the 1050's and put them in a bigger box together, but that would require them to be on their side. Would this harm them? Just looking for idea to move this stuff safely..

If you don't have the transport cardboard for disk drives, just put some floppies, you don't need anymore, in the disk drives and close them.

Otherwise, put some styrofoam around the 1010 and 800 and you should be fine.

I have one cardboard dummy around.. I could use it as a template to cannibalize a file folder to make more.. I got thinking about it after the post, I'm probably better off giving each drive it's own box.. so if they get dropped or something it's only one drive effected.. then use the extra space in each outter box for joysticks and the 850, 1010..

When I moved all my Atari stuff up with me to the Scottish Islands, I had no original boxes at all for any of the stuff. I ended up filling a single large cardboard 'book box' and wrapping everything in bubble wrap. The trick with the disk drives is indeed to put a floppy disk in the drive, and close the drive door, which should protect the heads. Despite the stuff having to travel hundreds of miles, going on two boats through choppy waters, and having to change vehicles several times along the way, it was all in one piece and all still worked fine. The Atari stuff was made to last!
