HELP! SIO2PC issues

Recommended Posts

So... a friend gave me a SIO2PC serial version (with USB adapter attached). Plugged into high end (Core i7 3770K 4.0 Ghz, 32GB Ram) Windows 7 PC, computer saw it and installed the drivers. So far, so good.

Then I installed APE. APE will not boot.

Computer assigned it COM 8. COM 2 was available, so I reasigned the driver to COM 2, and changed it to COM 2 in APE. Still nothing. When I turn the power on, Power LED comes on, and second (middle) LED blinks while the Atari makes the familiar fart noise, then I get the basic 'READY' prompt (800XL). Flashing LED stoops when farting noise stops. SIO cable is known good, as I tested it on a 1050 and it booted fine.

Also.... I am using Windows 7.... I can not seem to adjust the right part of the screen (the teal area) to see the information it is saying.

Do you have an actual registered up to date copy of APE? I think older versions of APE (the trial is an old version) don't work with USB->serial adapters. Can you try with RespeQt, and see if the same issues occur? If you have the same issues with RespeQt too, then your hardware is to blame.

Also, is your USB->serial cable an FTDI based one? other brands don't seem to work very well (although the port should at least OPEN....) as an SIO2PC (the timing isn't accurate enough).
