Stream PC games to your Nintendo Switch with the upcoming Rainway app

Recommended Posts

It's certainly technically feasible, sincerely the Switch is similar to the Nvidia Shield, which has done the same thing for years. If it makes it into the eshop, I'll eat a JoyCon. It will almost certainly require a jailbreakey workaround.

I hate this type of article, because it's intentionally deceptive to the extent that you have to read it three times in order to understand the difference between what's being said and what's actually happening.

What's being said is that there's this awesome new feature on the Switch that lets you stream PC games to it.

What's actually happening is that there's a proposed new app that will conceptually let you stream a game from a PC to another device, and the Switch is an example of "another device". There's no commentary on the obvious hurdles, like will this app function within the Switch's incredibly closed atmosphere, or if Nintendo's policies would allow it to even try. These two questions need to be addressed before this can be taken seriously. The article takes the idea that Nintendo would go against 30 years of business practice and embrace PC gaming and it treats this absurdity like a foregone conclusion.

TL; DR- not worth the click.

I have newver had problem with BGR website before.

And I don't look to you for links to quality journalism. Newver ever.

BGR is a wonderful site for monetizing rumored leaks about unreleased iPhones.

So are you saying the switch is not powerful enough to play pc games?

That's rubbish depending what level of gaming were talking. It's a custom variant of the shield console 4k 2017 version and that system is capable at non 4k level can gun for ps3 levels and above. Unlike shield you don't have that Android os overhead too meaning more resources and not limiting itself for variants in hardware.

The Switch plays Switch games, it doesn't play PC games. Has nothing to do with power.

First, the Switch wouldn't be playing these games, as its ARM-based and ARM does not run Windows PC software natively. The most you could hope for is emulation. And NO, the switch is not powerful enough to emulate a modern PC game.

But that's not even what's being suggested. The idea here is for the PC to do the heavy lifting and for the Switch to stream the I/O. That is possbike on a conceptual level, but it remains to be seen if Nintendo would allow it (I see no reason they would) or if it would provide for a good user experience if they did.

Ask yourself this: if a third party wanted to have their game on the Switch, would Nintendo rather they pay a hefty licensing fee, or bypass that and set up some rube goldburg system on their own dime?
