Thoughts about this possible alternative internal colecovision PSU

so i have been thinking about this and was looking as one does, and i came across this on ebay

I did try and do something similar with a hefty heatsink and a load of voltage regulators and capacitors once but I got some image distortion during my tests so abandoned that idea, what I want to know if anyone can help is would this deliver power clean enough to run a Colecovision without any image distortion

 

it maybe worth getting one just to try at that price but wanted to see what others thought first

i use cfm40t it can be fit in the coleco and give you all the power you need +12 +5 -5 so you still can connect the roller controller behind the coleco

It isn't an internal mod, but something I have been working on. It runs on a stock cv with no mods and just uses an off the shelf 12V power supply.

i looked on ebay at http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Very-Handy-3-voltage-Poject-Power-Supply-Mains-input-with-12v-5v-3-3v-Output-/322479449518?hash=item4b1545e5ae:g:casAAOSwknJXyuj7 but this seems to be a variant of cfm40t, this is CFM40T-07 which doesnt have the -5 volts which isnt a major issue i suppose, it is the only one that appear after putting in cfm40t.

 

it looks a bit big for what is needed

ok i picked up one of these power supplies i mentioned in post one during a much larger ebay parts order.

 

it works a treat.

 

it outputs 5v only so it only appears to work if you have a F18a installed

 

does anyone know the power requirements of the SGM, will that work on 5V only?

You can use 5v with SGM, thats how my console is set up right now and everything works fine.

Do you have a part # on the PSU?

Is it putting out 12v, 5v, -5v?

120v input?

The power supply I used is a Meanwell RS-15. I installed the F18a board so I don't require -5V anymore. If you don't put an F18 board in you could get one of the Meanwell powersupplies that delivers -5V, 5V and 12V. It takes anything from 100 to 240V input. I plan on making something like it for my Intellivision but the voltages on that one are a bit more difficult to obtain.

I figured it was a two out.

I've got a mean well three out, but was hoping someone found a small enclosed three out.

Just uses a din 5 connector.
