Your favorite video game music from atari 2600 to N64

Recommended Posts

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Journey To Silius on the NES had some particularly memorable tunes.

Several PlayStation games had some great music. Tekken 2, Alien Trilogy, Resident Evil 2, Tenchu: Stealth Assassins, and Twisted Metal 3 (Rob Zombie soundtrack!) stand out in particular.

And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Super Street Fighter II Turbo on 3DO. Holy [email protected]#$, is that awesome. Go listen to the 3DO version of Guile's theme and see if your face doesn't melt.

In 1981 the music on Intellivision "SNAFU" was a surprise. There are two tunes composed by Russ Lieblich.

second SNAFU tune (26s in above video): https://youtu.be/iF-mRp-VXr8?t=26

Russ Lieblich also designed the Intellivision game "League of Light" (aka. Master of Lamps) It might be the very first "music" video game.

I don't normally like in-game music but the classics on Intellivision "Thunder Castle" (Dave Warhol) were well done.

I told my buddy about this. He'll tune in. Fun times.

Thank you very much!! :) I really appreciate that. Tell me what he thinks of it. My show has been live the past few Sundays also! It is not prerecorded online podcast,it is a live radio show on the real FM.Hope he's digging it. I did play some TI-99 4A sounds last! :)

So many great tunes! Some already mentioned, but I'll throw in my two cents about some arcade titles that really had amazing music and still sticks with me to this day:

Arcade:

Quartet (right back to 86 with this one, lol)

Outrun (possibly the first amazing music I ever heard in an arcade back then)

Twin Cobra (awesome music! First level especially, but all are infectious)

honourable mention: Twin Eagle (the more obscure sequel, not nearly as good a game but worthy for the incredible hair metal guitar break when you engage the fighter jets!)

Double Dragon (awesome music, even though not all the machines I played growing up had the background music very loud...you really had to listen hard to hear it. And it was worth it!)

Black Tiger (Do you have any zenny?)

Then music from the NES:

Rygar (masterpiece music!)

Blaster Master (probably my singular favorite)

Ninja Gaiden (cinematic, it had it all)

Metroid (amazeballs, all of it)

Those are the ones that hold the most memories for me, and that are still awesome to this day.
