Starcat #1 Posted May 14, 2003 Hi Guys ! As most of you probably know, the progress of our popular atari jaguar 2D shooter, Star Alliance - Battle for Earth is slow but steady. To show all you game hungry Jag fans some progress the Star Alliance team has decided to release a concept art rendering. If there is enough interest we might consider releasing more concept art later. You can find it on the Star Alliance Page ( http://www.starcat-dev.de/star_alliance/index.php )and also below in this post. Have fun ! Feedback is very welcome. Regards, Lars. Maarten Martens #11 Posted May 14, 2003 Hey Lars, I checked out the site ... This game looks indeed very sharp ... I love shooters myself ... I can't wait to see more of it! Keep up the great work, this seems like a nice project! Maarten
Stone #12 Posted May 14, 2003 I'm not sure. But I'll try my best to make it as good as possible. It's sprite-based, right? Just make sure that you have them turn around the z-axis when they move from side to side, otherwise there's no point in having the 3D 'lump' on top of the ship as it'll hide everything Imagine the Enterprise from above, it'd just look like a circle with two lines sticking out of it if you never saw it from another angle...just remember variety is good (and my all-time fave PC shooter Flying Tigers had the player's craft 'bank' like this when you turned...very cool ) Stone
Alex Czarnowski #13 Posted May 14, 2003 Hi Lars, The picture looks very cool - we're waiting for the final game version Just make sure there is enough aliens to terminate Cheers,
Thunderbird #14 Posted May 14, 2003 How are you accomplishing that motion blurring effect? Is it some kind of transparent blitter copy/stretch of a the image bitmap? Also, how do you accomplish that blurring distance effect? I think you could probably do some kind of fogging over distance with the Jag, but certainly not a blur. It looks like a depth-of-field effect.
JagChris #15 Posted May 15, 2003 Good lord Lars, your game looks great! I can't believe it, when I was 17 I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. Here Lars has a Jag development library built and is creating his first game. I don't know whether to admire or be jealous. I think I'll do both. Good luck Lars, we'll all be waiting for the finished product.

LinkoVitch #20 Posted May 17, 2003 that really looks cool StarCat. Hope we can be treated to some cutscene action like that in the final (even if it has to be a lower res )
Starcat #21 Posted May 17, 2003 Hi ! Thanks for the kind words. We're doing our best to make the game as good as possible. To LinkoVitch: Yes, we are planning to put in cut scenes of some sort into the game. To Paolo: Support (in every way that comes to your mind) is always very welcome and also very important to keep the project going. In the past the progress was slow often because I needed money for hardware and software to continue development. Regards, Lars.

It's packed with goodies and very helpful if you want to learn to program on the Jag! Pick up a copy, I did. Lars, the rendering looks great. I can't wait to play this game! Thanks for your support of the Jag community. Jason

Jason And for those attending JagFesk UK 2003, I will be selling these CD's on behalf of Lars. All cash will be sent back to Lars after the event. If you are planning on attending and would like a copy, then PM me and let me know. I will not be burning a massive number off beyond those that are reserved. So it will be first come first served. Paolo #24 Posted May 18, 2003 This support thing brings me some thoughts... I always noticed that any game on any console out there has got TONS of sponsors showing anywhere in the game (buildings, ads, objects...). Any console except one (guess wich one?) All I see is (at best) that atari and other jag games are sponsored (WTR features doom and others, Super Burnout features 'do the math', ...). Well, there is that chupa-chups thing in zool (or zoop?) and the official Val d'Isere logo, but So why don't accept sponsors for Lars' game? Something like 'Goatstore warehouse' on a building in the intro scenes or 'Songbird cargo' flying around during an FMV, or some other decals spread over the gaming objects. If we set something like 50$ per sponsor, we could have -say- ten sponsors and a good speed-up of the developement. What do you think Lars? AND, we will finally have a game with sponsors in it! Just a thought Paolo
Guest #25 Posted May 18, 2003 well.... if starcat allows other developers in it. count me in i want to be taken serious in the jag community. (no really!). since i wont leave the jag community (sorry for those guys that hate me )since i have been here for 1 year now. Not only is this sponsor thing an good idea, it will help starcat, as well as my reputation in the jag community. now....if someone just could help me setting up my paypal account  i can get my hands on the jaguar dev.tools much faster. as well as the starcat dev.tools. best regards, Dragonforce
