upgrading an Apple //e to a Apple IIGS

I talked about this back in the day with my friend who had a IIe. It didn't make much sense because the cost then was almost the same as getting a IIGS on its own, and you still didn't quite have the same functionality. It was an usual upgrade to say the least. The modern version you linked to looks like a hassle as well.

Apple offered a kit for this called the II3 to IIgs Conversion.

It was not a popular seller as it was very close to the cost of a complete IIgs, and you still needed to buy a mouse.

I always thought it was cool so I build what I wished HAD existed:

I used an original IIe to IIgs Kit

Replaced the IIe upper case with a IIe Platinum setup

Installed an UltimateMicro Power Supply upgrade

Paint the pan bottom Platinum

Added some cards:

CFFA 3000

Transwarp GS

A2Heaven 8m Ram/ROM Card
