Coleco strong-arming homebrew publishers and fan sites

Well then, you better check out the ColecoExpo website because their description on there of Sydney Hunter is VERY misleading especially for those that have not been involved in the retrogaming scene for as long as most people here on AtariAge have been. Heck, they don't even mention you and CollectorVision, just that they teamed up with Exidy... I know, you acquired that rights to the name Exidy.

I hope the Sydney Hunter game for the ColecoVision is a huge success, but be very careful with who you get into bed with... especially these fu*ks over at River West Brands, Coleco Holdings LLC, etc.

Well, if the description on their website is confusing, I honestly don't give a f?%k . That's their thing

The game was developped by Exidy (yes, the NEW Exidy, not the former one) wich is a subsidiary of CollectorVision

See Exidy as another team from CollectorVision

All the ™ and © are marked on the packaging and also in-game, and NOTHING mention: Liscenced or Affiliated with Coleco Holdings

So people are going to quickly notice all this

As for ''be very careful with who you get into bed with''

Well, I'm not getting in bed with anyone

Chris asked me for 150 copies back in March and the deal was good enough for me to accept

And this was long before all the mess/drama happened

So I didn't see a reason why not accepting the deal

Again, I'm trying to stay away from all this, my personal health issue doesn't allow me to keep fighting on this

I'm an Atari guy, going back to at least 1980, earlier if you count the Sears Tele-Games Pong unit we had before that. I have never owned a ColecoVision, nor ever been interested in finding one as a modern collector - just not my thing.

That said, this whole thing angers me on behalf of the entire modern collector/homebrew/retro-gaming community, regardless of platform. I went and became a fan of the ColecoVision Fan Page on FB just to show further support of the community. If this assclown wins, it sets dangerous precedent and puts all of our beloved hobbies at risk.

Keep fighting the good fight.

Who cares who is working on it? I have worked on plenty of games with weird IP's (I wrote a couple of Nickelodeon titles for the SNES for instance), it pays the bills. And half the time the theme is irrelevant, when the game is fun to play. That is all that matters in the end anyway. Boobies or not.

I don't even know what/who Rainbow Brite is, since I haven't googled it, but if I got paid to make a game with that IP, I would be in. Not that I have time for it, but if I did, I would.

Even if the client was hmm, I don't know, SATAN?

dana-carvey-church-lady-could-it-be-sata

...I'm just kidding of course man, I don't think anybody knew things were going south with this guy (COLECO) and I know the programmer for Rainbow has already responded to this in his own thread; certainly nothing done wrong on his end whatsoever. Look at poor CollectorVision getting seemingly played by them (sorry J-F) into promoting their game (Exidy) as if they created and released it themselves (COLECO).

Very sad state indeed right now, sorry to say...

that pic of rainbow brite & strawberry shortcake is hot as fuck. btw, am i still allowed to refer to em as rainbow brite and strawberry shortcake?

Today they go by the names Baby Cakes and Bow Bow. Make sure you ask for some "champagne" and tell them that Schiz sent you. Don't forget to wear an eraser because there is nothing worse than ink dripping out of your dick for months from a case of the toons.

This most recent development on the Coleco FB page is interesting. They are STILL trying to link "ColecoVision Fan" to developer homebrews! I thank CollectorVision for setting the record straight on this one...

What is most interesting about this development is that the "pirate" that CollectorVision is referring to is none other than Juice2839! Those of you who may not know, search around these forums and you'll see exactly who that is. He's been banned from AtariAge for his software/hardware piracy and abusive behavior.

It's posts like this from Coleco that makes me question what their real agenda is and why instead of communicating with me to resolve the claim retractions they are engaging in communication with a known software pirate who openly admitted to try to damage the ColecoVision homebrew community as a vehicle to defend their stance.

I am still waiting on those retraction emails. Like I said, if this isn't about the homebrew community in general, just retract all the claims except for the ones about "adult" games and the Nintendo property. That is a compromise that I can agree to and I don't think this is too much to ask from Coleco.

Dear God, Juice again?! That guys like a bad case of penicillin-resistant-clap, that just keeps coming back and back and back! He's like the endless d*ck drip, am I right guys? We've all been there, right? Right?! (OK maybe not).

Every page here invoking subjects somewhat related to games I've coded, I'm shocked.

All the legal text is very interesting, a bit confusing to me, but hopefully, I do understand the main part of it.

This thread is insane....

This thread sure is insane.

Hilarious!!! I almost fell out of my chair.

Me too. So many great talents. It's nice to see artists changing the look of some cartoon characters.

The nipple... THE most offensive thing in the history of the universe!

For some, yes it's considered inappropriate to have any exposed; I personally don't care, mines are hairy too.

Very interesting. And I'm too hoping for a pleasant result after all this.

This is a rollercoaster of emotions for me; every day I'm anxious to see what is next and hope for positive results.

Is all this going to have any bearing on the 4th wave of the Super Game Module? :?

"Several years ago in an act of community goodwill, a Coleco license was given to an independent developer (for $1) to make 'one run' of a device that is used in conjunction with the retro Coleco console. The item was created and sold. Coleco looked the other way after the 2nd and 3rd runs. "

Is this implying they aren't going to look the other way for the 4th run?

I don't know what he hopes to accomplish by trying to compare homebrewers and bootleggers as similar in front of thousands of retrogamer fans. It seems like a good way to get an Expo boycott, besides being completely ridiculous. I think it's also deluded to think he can treat homebrewers as if they were his employees.

Can we please stop with this porn talk and get back to real issues with this case?

~Ben

That would be great, especially if people can stop making fun of someones questionable life choices, because none of that has anything to do with the issue at hand.

Wow, interesting thread... only 3 days old, but so far 14 pages with 326 messages.

Sadly, this negative drama may dissuade some from considering a Coleco unit.

As long as they aren't dissuaded from buying a "classic" 1980s ColecoVision and supporting the homebrew community! ;)
