Coleco strong-arming homebrew publishers and fan sites

TPR

Recommended Posts

Dear homebrew publishers -

Please make whatever games you want to. Don't use the Coleco logos. Pretend they don't exist, because really, the Coleco we know and love doesn't exist.

Make lots of games. Make AWESOME games. And let's start having fun and just ignore the troll in the room and hope it goes away...

What do you all say?

''Please make whatever games you want to.''

That's exactly what we've been doing for years now

''the Coleco we know and love doesn't exist.''

Well, it's been a long time since then anyways ;)

Isn't the reason why we're all making brand new games, since Coleco isn't around anymore? ;)

''Make lots of games. Make AWESOME games''

Oh, we're trying to! :)

*CollectorVision Games have decided to NOT use Coleco/ColecoVision anymore on any of our upcomming games

You know... As I'm sitting here with my family in New York City seeing shows and having such a good time, I think back to all of this stupid, pointless, insignificant drama and the only thing that comes to mind is...

FUCK THIS!!!

JF is right. This is what the community has been doing for years. So here's what I'm going to do...

- I'm going to post whatever the hell I want to on my Facebook fan page. I don't give a damn what Coleco or Chris Cardillo says.

- I'm going to promote whatever homebrew games I want to on that page regardless of what Coleco or Chris Cardillo says.

- Hell, I may very well do an awesome feature on as many porn games as I want as long as I don't violate Facebooks ToS because I don't give a damn about what Coleco or Chris Cardillo says.

I'm in this for fun, not his stupid drama that he clearly thrives off of.

So dear Coleco and Chris Cardillo - You all can kindly fuck right off because I've had enough of this. I'm going to go back to having a good time with the retrogaming community and I don't give two shits what you, your joke of a company or your bullshit "style guide" might say which I would politely ask that when you're done writing it, you shove it as far up your ass as you can get it.

Are we clear?

Let's all go have some fun, shall we?

It is a time for great food, merriment, and singing!

Who can take up his lies
Sprinkle it with manure too
Cover it with no facts and threaten you
The cardo man, the cardo man
Oh, the cardo man can
Because he's a troll who wished he were good
Who can take Coleco
Wrap it up in a lie
Watch the brand burn and see it quickly die
The cardo man, the cardo man
The cardo man can
Because he's a troll who wished he were good

I really hope you guys blocked Chris Cardillo and his associates.

~Ben

Nope, he is more than welcome to come on the forum and vomit whatever uneducated sounding drivel he wants that the rest of us will ignore.

Here are my terms: If you agree to give me your money then I'll agree to stop robbing you at gunpoint. Once I have the money then I'll remove the gun from your head. See? We both win. You don't get robbed at gunpoint and I get your money. Fair?"

Armed robbery is still armed robbery last I checked.

Chris Cardillo is doing no favors bullying outstanding members of the community, then negotiating the terms of friendship. He is not our "friend." Friends don't come with strings attached. Drop the "r" and you get "fiend." That's what our bully truly is.

Way to stick it to the man! Might be anatomically incorrect, but here's five thumbs up...

Lots of drama. Glad I was able to experience Colecovision back in the 1980's

I'm beginning to regret that I wasn't. As a little kid I think I played on a Colecovision once at a friends house. I remember thinking, cool, something different than my 2600. This is really different. I don't remember what game but I remember I was having fun playing it. A dungeon game or something.

Personally I believe Chris just wants his little expo to fail hard, so he can blame us for his silliness

Also don't think they have the ability to launch majors projects that wouldn't be repackage Chinese bootlegs or crumby items from China's toy industry

I remember playing Cosmic Avenger, Zaxxon, Looping, Pepper II, Space Fury, Mouse Trap, Gorf, Time Pilot, Donkey Kong, and others, on Colecovision in my blanket forts on winter days. That was perfect. Reading astronomy books. Cozied up with EGM and dreaming of the new games. The awesome graphics. Collecting cartridges one by one. Each a new virtual world, a new adventure, in a small box.

It is utterly and completely impossible for anyone to buy that experience outright. Never mind marketing and selling it in today's world of instantly downloaded Skinner box games and AAA mega titles. Not even the mighty machine of social medial can replicate it. One has to simmer it and build the good times game by game over the course of several years.

So yeh, let this drama continue. It's like an LMN movie lasting more than 2-hours.

I've been around awhile..I don't post much, but I read everything that comes across the CV forum. To all of the homebrewers, keep doing what you are doing, as long as you are within your legal right to do so, with the trademarks and all of that, so please be careful.

The next time Opcode or Collectorvision, or Pixelboy comes out with something, am I going to stop and think, "Oh no! Did Coleco and Chris Cardillo approve this?" HELL NO! I'm going to buy it anyway, as the new Coleco's endorsement or lack thereof means nothing. I trust those guys and others to produce a fun and professional quality game. I don't need a stamp of approval from someone to guide me on my purchase. And futhermore, I am going to visit whatever website, fan page, or social media site that I feel like, with or without any official endorsement.

In the end, it's the people that I know and trust from previous experiences that make up the true spirit of the Colecovision. Not someone that just bought the rights to an expired trademark.

He probably doesn't even know how to get Smurfette naked....oops Colecovision porn again. Sorry!

Just use the ADAM Computer logo! I am pretty sure that RWB, Coleco Holdings LLC. and for that matter, anyone else on this Earth, has NOT acquired any of the rights to it.
