Coleco strong-arming homebrew publishers and fan sites

Recommended Posts

Tim is cool. We writers all went out to dinner last night and had a great time together. We figure we'll have a great time today whether anyone shows up or not

Good attitude.

Day two:

Not to derail this thread but that was comedy gold right there in the pilot episode.

He watched castaway and was like, "I'll never talk to balls..." Then this was literally the next scene. :lolblue:

What if Chris Cadrillo showed up to his own expo to learn he was literally the last man on Earth?

That poor girl... you can just tell by the look on her face she is not thrilled to be there.

That's really bad. We've had much better attendance at the Davis Atari Parties and Bill didn't promote them heavily. They were held in a library. Attendance was free. And in almost every year, there was more ColecoVision presence [a ColecoVision with a 2600 Adapter] there than at this "show"!

Not really, but AdamCon is a completely different animal compared to this. These years, it's more a simple gathering of long-time friends, with the same people coming every year, plus a few people dropping by for a quick visit just because they happen to live relatively nearby. There are no vendors, no push to sell anything, it's all very simple, friendly and informal. It's really fun as a social gathering, and lots of people there are tech-savvy enough to hold any type of conversation about ADAM hardware and software, but if you're expecting more than that (like something with more of a commercial vibe) you may walk away slightly disappointed. Me, I like AdamCon as it is. :)

The last "commercial-type" ADAMcon with an "ADAM store", "name" attendees, and "large" attendance was #6 in Sarasota, Florida, in 1994. Since then, it has slowly transformed into an annual meeting of friends who still do/try to do stuff with their ADAMs, picking up some ColecoVision homebrew folks from Quebec along the way. But I agree with Pixelboy: if you come to ADAMcon 30 expecting a San Diego Comic-Con atmosphere and hoping to move thousands of $$$ in stuff, you will be sorely disappointed. But we welcome anyone who wants to come and show/talk about anything they are interested in, and we are willing to buy and support new stuff.

We should have our own colecovision show. Perhaps an Atariage show somewhere not too far from Canada so we can attend. Like in Canada but you know buffalo or somewhere not too far.

Small venue, small charge to attend as a vendor to cover rental of a small room facility. Free to the public to buy stuff and 1 day only.

You could expand the cgcc.ca twice-a-year swap meets that happen in Waterloo, ON.

I invite all the Coleco fans and programmers to Free Play Florida November 17-19 in Orlando, Florida. http://wp.freeplayflorida.com/

Hundreds of pinball and video games set on Free Play. Huge console gaming area with just about everything imaginable ready to play. Guest like Todd Rogers, Billy Mitchell, Nathan Barnatt and more.

Gets bigger every year.

Right in the middle of Disney, Universal and Sea World. Bring the family on vacation and sneak away to the show for a few hours.

Sounds interesting. What is it. When is it. Is there any fees. What kind of stuff do you swap? Do you bring all you retro computer stuff in car trunk and set it up or just show up at the same time to trade stuff.

I'm thinking of kind of a convention where stuff is set up. You can have it open to the public if they want to come in and buy something or just browse and the hardcore people can swap stories, etch or sell items, or demo items.

But not too big.

Pretty far for me but you never know. Is there sales/or demos or is it just like a car show where you show you best stuff.

A lot of the pinball and arcade games are for sale while others are just being shown. There are also vendors selling everything from retro home games to new pinball and arcade machines, as well as the artist and craft people. I did see several cosplay people show up last year. High score contest with Walter Day there to officiate and special guest as well.

You know, it would be nice if Cardillo and his team actually had a clue on how to do social media. They just posted a video to Twitter...

That includes a tag to @Fun_Kade which turns out is some Persian account...

Screen Shot 2017-08-06 at 14.43.41.png

...that has nothing to do with video games, arcade games, or Coleco.

And they wonder why we make fun of them all the time.

I went to a couple of those swap meets in Toronto and Montreal that where organized by CGCC many, many moons ago.

So, what do you think Cardillo & company will do after this fiasco is all over?

1) Claim it had a great turnout.

2) Blame it's failure on 'bullying' of some other reason(s).

3) Ignore it like it never happened.

4) Other (please specify).

1, 2, and 4 (with 4 being a multitude of B.S. excuses).

I don't know what's more pathetic: the expo itself and the jokers running it, or the shills arguing on Facebook that it's not so empty.

I think there are some people who would never admit to their mistakes by choosing to attend, but no matter how people want to spin it, I'm looking at actual real videos taken by random people who are at the expo. Here's one that was just posted about 30 minutes ago showing a nearly empty vendor area with vendors sitting around bored with not many customers in sight:

Those are real actual photos of what the show floor looks like!

And just to be fair, there ARE people playing in the game room at least as shown in this video: https://www.instagram.com/p/BXdv1Hbjtgq/

But also strange there is hardly any ColecoVision hardware set up at the "Coleco" show. ;)
