A possible solution for feedback sniping?

Recommended Posts

It seems a lot of people are annoyed with the current ebay feedback system. If the other party treats you badly, then you are reluctant to leave a negative feedback because they will give you one in return.

My proposed changes to the system:

- If you post a feedback, it goes into a queue. The other party can not see it until they post a feedback. It doesn't count for either party until both have posted a feedback for the auction. This will encourage people to leave feedback, because they can't earn feedback unless they leave some.

- On the page listing the individual feedback messages. Each message should include the % of negative/neutral feedbacks left by each person, and also show their feedback rating. It would be easy to spot trouble makers with such a system.

Thoughts?

I like that idea - it reminds me of the concept behind the game show "Friend or Foe" (if you get the Game Show Network).

For the benefit of people that have never seen the show, this is a brief description of how it works (substitute the "Trust Box" for the "Feedback Box"):

.....Before the team is dismissed, they enter the "Trust Box" where they decide how their winnings up to that point are divided.

In the Trust Box, each player has a button. No one else can see this button. Each team enters the box, and the division of their winnings is dependant upon which button each player chooses. There are (3) possible outcomes:

1) FRIEND - FRIEND If both players do not press the button (Choosing to be FREINDS) the total winnings will be divided equally between the two.

2) FRIEND - FOE If only one player presses the "FOE" button, he or she will walk away with the entire amount, leaving the other player with nothing.

3) FOE - FOE If both players choose to press the "FOE" button, then all the money is lost, and both player walks away with nothing.

Alternatively you could have the queue contents revealed when theres no longer an option to leave feedback. So if the buyer leaves negative feedback, and the seller doesn't leave any feedback, the negative feedback is assigned when a certain duration expires, after which the seller can't leave feedback for that sale.

I like the idea. The only problem I see with it is having a dishonest seller rack up tons of negatives and continue to rip off people and avoiding his negatives by not leaving feedback in return.

lol!

That's basic game theory, conviently bundled into a game show. Nice.

I went to a lecture on game theory last year that was really interesting. Nice to see it being used for something useful. :ponder:

Personally I think it's a terrible idea. Let me run a scenario for you:

eBayer nr1 lists an item. eBayer 2 bids on item. Along comes eBayer3

who bids twice what the item is worth because he has the same item

up for bid. Ebayer2 now goes to eBayer3's auction and bids. The

auctions close. eBayer1 never gets paid by eBayer3, while eBayer3

sold his item. Ebayer1 leaves negative feedback, eBayer3 laughs all

the way to the bank and back home again because he's not leaving

any feedback for eBayer1. So the outcome is not real good. As long

as a crook has to say I'm a crook your scheme is COOKED.

Just my opinion

This scenario is basicly available right now. You just wait until the 90th

day from the sale and leave your feedback. Of course sitting there to

the exact time would be necessary to prevent retaliation but it can be

done.

You can leave feedback past 90 days. You just have to manually plug in the auction ID number and seller ID to do so.
