New Atari Console that Ataribox?

Recommended Posts

@Spriggy, I'm shocked you haven't "won a day" at AtariAge since December 23th...

A new announcement from Ataco up at ATARI Investisseurs, including new game launch details, Ashoebox manufacturing update, Atari Token details and Casino dribble.  Some interesting details.

They keep making all these press releases, and the usual suspects make posts on IGG or social media about what great news it is.  But this stuff NEVER amounts to anything tangible to backers.

The news in the press release is actually pretty bad when you think about it.  They said they would have at least 11,000 consoles shipped by the end of March.   Now, they might have 500 made by that time. The rest?  Who knows.

The rest of the release is just jibberish.   I hope no one really believes this bunch has the ability to produce and manage a cryptocurrency.

Meh.  I'm a small fry compared to big hitters like our Flo! 😎  It's not a competition young man! 🧔

The goal of investing generally isn't to lose money...

If you want to show love of the product, send them a heartfelt greeting card or something.

Based on my post, fair. I meant more along the lines of I'm willing to bet the Atari brand would be better served by someone to caretake it with careful licensing and generally safer projects for a while to rebuild it. Throwing the name at hotels, vaporware and speedos for all I know is not really doing anything to build the brand. Nobody invests with the intent of losing money, but some investments are more of a slow-burn than others. Atari as-is is run by incompetents and they have driven the goodwill and brand loyalty the Atari name had left right into the ground.

So the short version of this is that Atari is expecting, by the end of March to early April, to have on hand enough parts at their factory to build 500 Atari Boxes. Which is roughly 5% of what they need just to fulfill their Indiegogo commitments.

Depending on how long it takes for their factory to assemble 500 working units (such a small production run I expect would be hand assembled), and considering the slow shipping time to the US from China and you are looking at end of May/early June before any of these 500 units would likely be available to ship to backers. Even then, the huge majority (95%) would still have nothing.

That is if Atari even does this very small run of Atari Boxes in the first place. It would make more sense (and be more cost effective) for them to just sit on the parts they have and wait for a larger portion of components to arrive before starting manufacturing rather then to knock off and ship multiple smaller batches.

It was a joke at the time when I said it half a year ago 'I will be playing on my Amico before Atari Box backers ever get their units' but it is honestly looking more and more like the truth.

Atari is still nowhere close to ready to even begin manufacturing units in a quantity to deliver to their Indiegogo backers, and the the Amico should be starting their manufacturing in just a few months time to be ready for its October release.

There is a rapidly increasing possibility that I may just be right this time.

Please keep politics out of this and all discussions on AtariAge.  There will be no further warnings about that in this thread.

Thank you,

There are like only 2 or 3 products, tops, that capture the original spirit and accomplishments of the original VCS. I'll give you hint. It isn't this "new" VCS.

Those 500 are probably for covering all the Gamestop and Walmart preorders.

Sadly, that is probably true.

Strange Walmart hasn't pushed back their date, or they just didn't get the memo.

This really is beginning to look more and more like the Vega+ every day.  A small amount of units that only some backers will get before the whole thing implodes? Looks like we're heading that way after all...

I wouldn't be surprised if they hand-built about 50 and sent them to the most vocal backers.  How would anybody know how many were delivered?   It will be interesting to see if what they send out has the cheap shiny prototype finish or if it's actually the finished product.

I don't know, I see THIS in my INBOX just now and I cannot help but think the AtariVCS "TEAM" has some balls on them to still be sending these out. 🤔😆😆😆

@ColecoJoe I can't use my work computer to post here anymore and my phone is too clunky when it comes to screen shots.

@Flojomojo I think my posts are immediately flagged for deleting.

Wow... sporting a pair like that, I am shocked Arzt can even walk.

Atari is now months (not weeks) behind on fulfilling their Indiegogo commitment with absolutely no idea if/when they will be able to start production, and they decide to announce a new wait list where people can sign up to be third in line to receive a unit after the 10K+ backer units and existing pre-orders are manufactured and delivered.

You would think they would be a lot more concerned with how they are going to fulfill their existing and very overdue obligations rather then trying to eke out a few more sales for a product that they already cannot deliver.

"You will have 48 hours to purchase before losing your spot"

"There is no commitment to purchase"

Bit confusing that, i'll go with the second one.
