Did you say Half a Million?   The only thing I see these guys producing half a million of...is Farts.

Remember that PowerA are making the controllers.

They won't be making anything like that number for Atari, but when they can use almost exactly the same components for all their Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft controllers there'll still be significant savings to be had.

Yeah, I'm just waiting to see how that plays out.  I do hope PowerA isn't taking an IOU from Atari.  Ask TinGiant how that works out.

^ Great!
I suggest you all pre-order now, & immediately call to start a credit card dispute for non-delivery, get the ball rolling early so that they cannot wait out all those back-charges for 5 months.

You know they make money from the interest even if they refund everyone xD
I should also start a pre-order as well, undercut Atari by selling it for $99, hold the money, make a guranteed small interest then return the free loan :D

If you want a million of those, just grab any old couch that was discarded in SW PA. Have a seat. Granted... they will be old farts, but they will be free.

No, you need a Switch for that from what I've heard elsewhere...

Maybe that's why no less than 3 of my family members are searching for a Switch. Not sure I needed to know that about my boomer mother though.... Thanks Roots.

3 family members? Are you married? Do you have kids? How old are they? Is your wife and kids real people? Why do you think they enjoy porn as family entertainment? Ask yourself why that is. I'd like your perspective on that. Just curious. :)

I thought we've established that my wife is made up. If my kid is made up please let me continue to live the lie because he is too adorable. And 3 members is misleading, it's really 3 households. My mother who is around 60 really wants to play Animal Crossing. Actually that is the selling point for all the households at this point. My wife in so many imaginary words said she wanted Animal Crossing. I really wish she made this decision before all the Covid stuff. I get tired of answering all the, "No X, Y, & Z places are still out of Switches!" It is even more annoying that my mother is doing the same thing now....

My son isn't that old but he did recently clear one column of invaders out in the 2600 Space Invaders by himself. The reason we like things like that is because even though we are a huge family of 6 with a 19 year spread between the oldest and youngest (That means our family spans boomer to zoomer!) we are really close. Us older siblings in some ways are second parents to the younger siblings. A game like Animal Crossing lets us chill and have fun with each other and marvel over a town. My mother really wants to go visit some other towns and she can't anymore on the Wii one.

Funny side note. My boomer mom use to have the Pitfall mazes memorized to maximize her treasure score output. It was really cool when watching her play when I was younger. It sucks that she doesn't remember it anymore because I would love to be as good as she was back then. What is funny is she isn't what I would call a gamer but did have specific games she would play. 2600 - Pitfall, NES - Friday the 13th (yeah it sucks but in our family it's a classic), SNES Goof Troop & Zombies ate my Neighbors, and then from there it was Animal Crossing on Gamecube/Wii. It was a weird assortment of games she liked and didn't make sense.

Also this thread has been missing this some. I'm sorry it isn't tacos but a close sibling. Breakfast burrito made with spinach wrap, egg, leftover pepperoni, homegrown peppers, onions, and fresh garden squash. With a touch of hot sauce it was great. Probably should have added cheese but oh well. Actually I think it was fresher tasting without the cheese since it had a lot of squash as filler.

Catching up on all the “news” surrounding this project after getting that recent email re: pre-orders.

After reading about the need for the AtariOS to have constant connectivity, I would love the chance to get a unit and observe what traffic comes and goes from the box. From a nefarious perspective it’s entirely possible that the AtariOS could just a potential botnet to mine coin. Speculative? Sure, outside the realm of possibility - nah.

That speculation is made more believable by the established fact that Atari is dabbling in Cryptocurrency.

However, mining crypto requires a level of technical competence that I haven't observed in l'Atari.  I would be more inclined suspect the OS was monetizing user data for demographic research.

I surmise that if Atari does not get a certain amount of new preorders, none of the backer systems will be filled. They need to get 2X the orders before they can scale to cut costs. Unfortunately they actually have a chance to leap forward due to the recent news that the Amico is nowhere near anything that is ready to ship. They have an add for Ziprecruter (sp) for a position and the description of what they need is someone who can actually BUILD the entire system. So what the fudge do they have now? Most of what they have shown is mobile games, this is ouya 2.0 with a Turbo.
Usually I root for the underdog, but these 2 dogs are chewing up your wallet and slippers when you are taking a nap.

Yep, they want to get as many suckers and backers etc as they can before the sudden announce about how bad they feel about not ever being able to deliver to "BACKERS" and have to announce bankruptcy, this is why they keep stalling and stalling and claiming they have units and things are shipping to "devs" 😆When an actual backer receives a unit and displays it and puts it through it's paces for all the world to see I will gladly admit I was wrong but I don't see it happening.

Somewhere, in a parallel universe, the video game industry started in 2015 with a three-way fight between the l'Atari VCS, the Coleco Chameleon, and the Intellivision Amico.

And the kids in that world all decided video games were crap and promptly went out and got some exercise.

^ Soon there might be many people that wish they could go back in time and stop from donating to this cause.
I have a feeling 2020 has 2 more nasty suprises in store for Atari and Intellivision.

And if they both fold, I will be very grateful for the amount of unbridled internet rage we will witness.
Atari and Amico could in actuality make a documentary about how they failed, release it to youtube and it would generate enough money to pay back all the backers 2X fold. The amount of views racked up would even surpass Gangnam Style.

If these 2 both fold at the same general time, I wonder if someone else will start another crowdfunding for some piece of crap from the past, and will people line up yet again with the inevitable "TAKE MY MONEY!!!" motto?

As for me, Mike Kennedy will always be the original CrowdScammer, He came to the table with a plastic mold, I respect the amount of effort put into the many fake prototypes while maintaining a a straight face. The narratives created to keep it going with the "Mysterious Mr. Lee". Having the gaull to actually show up at a trade show with a SNES jammed into the case trying to pass it of was "2-legit-2-quit". Getting call out out on a fake prototype and coming back with another.

But these 2 are not as fun, because they do everything in hiding. Watching Mike Kennedy was like watching cartoon Shredder and his baffonery getting foiled by the Ninja turtles. Mike=Shredder Atariage=Ninja Turtles

I find it interesting that Atari is really pushing now you need to get these pre orders in by a certain date. I wonder if the retailers are getting cold feet because they sense a lemon and thus are pushing Atari to get more orders to meet quotas? I mean I really doubt WalMart or Gamestop care too much but they do want to make money. Either way I don't take it as a good sign. Either Atari knows the orders aren't high enough or the retailers are balking at this wasting their time and Atari is trying to "pump up" the numbers. Kind of a those are rookie numbers moment.

I'm not sure what you're talking about with the Amico. They didn't crowdfund, although they did leave a generous amount of time between pre-orders and first ship date. So far, nothing that I've seen has indicated that they're behind their target schedule. It's a different story with the VCS of course, but then again my issue with that project was never about if they'd deliver something.

Not to derail the topic but I haven't heard anything bad about the Amico lately. I mean I don't see it as the next big thing like some but it seems viable. I have more faith in it coming to market than this mess from Atari.

I can just see one huge major screw-up by Ataco and that is not realizing the USA uses 120V 60Hz power supply, but instead, uses a default power supply of 230V 50Hz.

Er, even from a purely technical standpoint both the Amico and Atari Box have shown to have at the very least working prototypes. So I am not sure where you are coming up with that the Amico is just now looking for someone to build the system?

Both have also made mention of manufacturing delays, due to Covid throwing supply chains and Chinese manufacturing for a loop. Something that is hitting all the console manufacturers, not just these two.

But the Amico is the one saying there is 'a possibility of delay' and still hoping to meet their 10/10/2020 release date. Unless Atari has access to a time machine, I just do not think they are going to make their December 2019 release date. Or the March 2020 release date. That is two missed releases well before the Covid problems. With their recent 'Good news Everyone!' announcement that after three months they finally managed to produce 96 units, with another 11,000 to go I expect their latest December 2020 release date is eventually not going to look terribly promising either.

While neither system might not offer what you are looking for in a gaming console, they are still both very different from each other in pretty much every conceivable metric.

^ Amico video, seems like they do not have a viable prototype at all.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LV1EKzFUyT8

Also amico has switched to pre-orders as well, it seems like they need money BEFORE the system is finished. I mean, the difference between buying a preorder from a company that IS making the product and has it is the warehouse ready to go, and buying it from a company that does NOT have it is
"Pre-selling vs Crowdfunding"

Basically this is crowdfunding (Amico and Atari), when someone orders the next iPhone a week before it launches, that is not crowdfunding, Apple does not need your cash, the phone WILL come out, when Nintendo has a preorder, they do not need your cash, the console will come out.
These 2 however... need your cash
